Liebe Folglinge,

Sometimes being an open-source maintainer is nice. I haven't done paid consulting for the GNUstep Objective-C Runtime for ages (I wasn't doing enough for it to be worth the tax effort and I'm not always able to commit to doing things in a sufficiently timely fashion to set up the expectations that being paid creates), so I added a note a while ago telling people to donate to Murray Edwards if they find the project useful.

Last week, I got the following email from the nice folks at Algoriddim saying (abridged):

I just wanted to drop you a note to let you know that we appreciate your continued work on the GNUstep runtime, and that we’ve made another donation to Murray Edwards to support women in computer science.

Always nice to see things being paid forwards.

Hi! I'm a reconnecting #Mikmaw #Enby #IndieAuthor, #Podcaster, #Vlogger, #GraphicDesigner, & #Musician.

I'm #Autistic and #ADHD (late diagnosed both), - I survived the gifted kid to burned out adult pipeline.

I'm also partially sighted, & physically disabled due to spinal fractures from my youth.

When I'm not being creative, I enjoy poking #ObjectiveC, #WordPress, & #CSharp with sticks

I love learning & currently speak 5 languages to varying degrees of proficiency.

So hi & welcome!

I guess since I moved to my own instance now, I need to do a new #introduction.

Hi, I'm js and on the Fediverse since 2018. I'm interested in #ObjectiveC, writing #assembly code (in whatever I can get my hands on, from x86_64 to PA-RISC to SPARC64 to IA64 etc.) and any kind of lowlevel hackery, #RetroComputing, #OpenSource in general and decentralization (such as @matrix or the #Fediverse). I'm also into #metal and #chiptunes.

A few projects I am involved in (non-exclusive):

• I created @objfw, a portable Objective-C framework and runtime. Go check it out if you like C and object oriented programming on basically any 32 bit or more platform!
• I'm a @fedora developer.
• I'm a @netbsd developer, where I mostly work on #pkgsrc.
• I'm also a MorphOS developer, where the goal is to switch MorphOS's ObjC support to @objfw.
• I used to be a @haiku developer. Technically still am, but am less active these days due to lack of time.

Some of the retro computers I have and tinker with are (non-exclusive list):

#Amiga 4000, 1200 & 600
• Naturetech GENIALstation 737S (400 MHz #SPARC64 laptop!)
• Sun Fire T5120
#NeXTstation Color
• HP Integrity rx1620 (1U Dual CPU Itanium server)
• A Duron 750 with a {Voodoo 2 | #Voodoo 3 3500 | S3 Savage 4 | ATI Rage Pro} (I switch between those depending on what I want to do, as I like playing with and writing code for those old proprietary 3D APIs)

I also have some old game consoles and am interested in running homebrew on them (again non-exclusive):

• Super #Nintendo
#Gameboy
• Nintendo #3DS
• Nintendo #Wii
• Nintendo Wii U (can't believe that's retro already!)
• Sega #Dreamcast (with hard drive mod, so it can run NetBSD)

I will probably update this post over time. Either by editing, or by posting a new one and then pinning the new one.

Moving to a new server, so an #introduction is in order :)

My name is Clarke. Currently live in Cathedral City with my husband, two Berners and two cats. Software engineer with a focus on #iOS app and framework development (majority #ObjectiveC but getting some experience with #Swift finally).

When I’m not working or playing with the dogs, I can be found playing #WorldOfWarcraft, #Destiny2, or #Overwatch. I enjoy #SciFi, #Fantasy, #Horror and #Mystery novels, various podcasts, gym and #Peloton time.

Time to finally do an #introduction!

I’ve been fascinated by the #web since I first got on the internet when I was a teenager. The idea that anyone could create a website — how cool is that!?

I’ve been a #Mac user even longer (my parents were in education and my mom would bring home her office Mac Classic on the weekends). Being creative with #HyperCard and wanting to make dynamic websites eventually got me into #programming. First with #Perl, later #PHP, and now #JavaScript and #TypeScript. I’ve also had some fun with #C, #ObjectiveC, and #Swift.

For 14 years I worked at a small company that makes the premier CMS for the #AltWeekly press in the US. Now I work on web applications in #React in the far-more corporate world. I also used to co-organize TucsonJS and Tucson React meetups.

Relatedly, as for re- #introduction. I’m a guy in the East Bay Area doing software in mainly #C #C++ and #ObjectiveC , #Swift sometimes; I also enjoy #python #UNIX and the #macintosh. Team #emacs. On the non-technical side I enjoy a good (or just interesting) #beer or #whiskey , petting my adorable asshole of a dog, eating dumplings (for example, burritos and beef Wellington) and telling the absolute worst, most groan-inducing jokes imaginable.

Hi, I'm Sam! I taught myself #programming in the '80s on a Commodore 64 and an IBM PC XT with QBasic. Now I'm a software developer at IRCCloud, building #Android and #iOS apps in #java and #ObjectiveC. Previously I worked on #music streaming apps at Last.fm.

Here are a few topics I'm interested in:
#photography
#cooking
#gaming especially in #VR
#linux on #raspberrypi
#homeautomation using #homeassistant, #python, and #nodered
