Why does it feel like we refuse to localize Go? There are so many terms that you have to learn a foreign language to say and people wonder why this really fun board game isn't spreading in the west. We localized chess for everyone, why can't we do the same for Go? Joseki is now movement, Atari is now trapping, kifu is now score cards. Fight me.

I'm thinking about starting a Go club. The nearest official one is 3 hours away in Louisville. This would start as just a little get together to learn and play, but if people are interested we could make it official signing up with the AGA and figuring out a proper meeting location instead of just "the park". We'll see, I own two go boards myself.

Gross, SilverStar and Ginsei Igo used AI art for their latest release on the Switch Eshop. As far as I can tell, it's only on the banner but that's very disgusting. I initially wishlisted this to get later but now I refuse to buy it or any SilverStar product.

В таких раскладах системы на ATI/AMD и линуксах выглядят разумным выбором.
Раз хочется комп, чтобы играть в Го, то берёшь с такой видяхой и такой ОС, на которых меньше всего суеты с использование GPU, точнее #GPGPU.
Вот по тегам что накопилось про игру в Го с компом — ничего принципиально сложного в настройке.
Может кому и смешно, а я помню времена, когда пост-советские люди приобретали себе домой шахматные компьютеры. Чтобы сами играть в шахматы и детей приучать, в домах были что-то вроде «Электроника ИМ-01». Фигуры переставлять не умел и отображал координаты хода только на табло.
Такое приобретение было непростой вещью в те времена и в тех условиях. Современность же изобилует разнообразием интеллектуальных развлечений, которые и не сильно востребованы. Однако, найдутся люди рассматривающие десктоп или ноутбук именно с точки зрения средства для игры в оффлайне, а не только в онлайн. Или для анализа своих и чужих партий опять же через нейронные сети для обучения или отработки навыков игры.

@zenorogue Kiiind of related: I just learnt about "coupon go", a variant of go. When it's their turn to play, players can either play a normal go move, or give up their turn in exchange for a certain number of bonus points that will be added to their final score.
Apparently researchers had professional players play that version of go and then studied the games to give a quantitative estimate of the value of go moves. This was before AI go, of course.

Building a custom #weiqi clock because:
1) It's hard to find game clocks with the systems I want (byo-yomi, Canadian overtime, Fischer).
2) The ones I can find are expensive, use enormous disposable batteries, and/or are a pain to set.
3) Phone apps are lame and will likely never be tournament legal.
4) I just kinda want to.

I used to work at Google until 2024.01.10 when they had their second large (and nth overall) layoff. Technically, my last day is 2024.03.10, three weeks before I was going to retire. So getting a layoff package was a big win for me.
Too bad about Google, though. Used to be a decent company to work for before they decided worker loyalty and loyalty to workers didn't matter.
