New #introduction post!

I'm Alicia and I'm a fibre artist (#dyeing #handspinning #felting #needlefelting #weaving #crochet #embroidery #upcycling #sewing) with interests in #mandala #art #psychedelicart #sacredgeometry #neurographicart and #watercolors.

My family and I run a business called @Fibre2Fabric where we dye all sorts of exotic #fibre #yarn, and #fabric.

I live in the country with my partner and our 6 #cats, 3 #dogs, #snake and #crestedgecko where I enjoy my many interests. (#gardening #plants #herbalism #fungi #music #ukulele #piano #dancing #flowart #reading #writing #tarot #poetry #haiku #cozygames and I'm getting more into #opensource / #linux)

When I say flow art, I mean spinning props like #hulahoop #leviwand #puppyhammer #poi #staff #silkfans #firefans etc.

I love language learning. I studied #German and #Spanish as a kid, took #Japanese in uni, and I'm currently studying #ASL #Cree #Toki Pona #Spanish and #Chinese. I also dabble in #French and #Latin sometimes and I'm learning #Greggshorthand to write faster. Cree is my favourite language and Spanish is my second.

I've been cursed since childhood with that lovely trifecta of #heds #pots and #mcas. Healing slowly but surely.

Hope I get to meet even more cool people the algorithms would normally drown out on other social media sites. I love it here!

I am still not convinced about PDF sewing patterns.

As an experiment, I put in an order for four of them to be printed. They said they'd fold them to A4 size, and I thought, great. I was expecting a large envelope, probably board-backed. What actually arrived was, I kid you not, this box. And it was *full*. No wonder Cashmerette have an entire blog post on how to store the blamed things! (I mean, yes, they're printed on decent paper, but so are Nina Lee patterns and you could get about ten of those into this box, envelopes and all.)

You live and learn...

A second fabric covered box - this one for #Fimo which I keep in these plastic dog treat boxes. (Why vegetable dog treats come in quite so much plastic is another issue - I have now sourced catering size cardboard dog treat boxes so please don’t get at me!) The fabric is a rather horrid stretch nylon which has remained unbothered in my stash because I like the pattern but hate the material. Should do fine as a box covering. #sewing #StashBusting #Storage

Rivas has long maintained some safeguard from the seasonality of weddings and demand for gowns. Her fashion interests are broad and her skills wide-ranging. In fall and winter she sells coats she has designed, and throughout the year she makes shawls.

And in addition to being hired by schools or community education programs, Rivas opens her workshop weekly to children who want to learn to sew and develop their own projects.

“They can learn to sew in one day. In two hours, they’re going to be able to know how to use the machine,” Rivas said. “It’s like a sport. You can play basketball right away, but the more you do it, the better you become.”

Thinking about using one of my Traveller's Notebooks as a sewing journal.

One section to keep measurements of people I sew for regularly.

Another for a list of the fabric I have and what the plan for it is.

Lastly a project section where I can record stuff I've actually sewn, with notes on size, adjustments made, fit, stuff I might change for next time.

I didn’t learn how to sew like this until very late in life. Although I did dabble with tailoring in my early 20s.

But there is something that makes me feel so exhilarated when I sew these things. The steps are logical. There is no waste. All the sizing is in the seams.

And it is a project that always has an end and the thing produced is useful. I don’t know why, but it makes my soul very happy. #sewing

#WeekendSewingClub I’ve got a recovery-day off work, so I’m modifying and placing shoulder pads. I need you to see the half ‘n’ half jacket (now more like 70:30) with the sleeves in. I absolutely LOVE how the preponderance of the Prince of Wales check changes the whole perception of the piece!

Should also admit that this is the 2nd pair of sleeves I cut 🫣 The first had the horizontal stripes misaligned by about 1.5 cm, and at this stage that is just not acceptable! 😆 #sewing #tailoring #maker

I made a case for the binoculars, using the old jeans while going down the scritti politti rabbit hole tonight on YouTube. Snap buttons coz I can’t stand Velcro. I’m happy with it. *but darnit, my fingertips hurt*

The original plastic case became icky n sticky, so after tracing to make the pattern, got chucked in the trash.
