Man if you want to help pollinators in the spring up here in the north (and birds in the summer), plant Haskap. Here in #yeg mine already have open flowers and very busy bumblebees. #spring #gardening
I need help finding a family doctor in #Edmonton for a friend.
Said friend is transfem and disabled, and it's hard for her to make physical appointments.
Therefore, she needs to be sure a meet and greet will cover those two bases with dignity and respect, before she ever sets foot in the office.
Clinics she's attempted to contact (and confirm that available doctors have at least basic proficiency on those two things) either say nothing at all, or run around her questions, saying things like "we can't give you that information until the meet and greet, in-office."
Needless to say, it's been a huge hassle.
She is NOT a student, so she can't access the university doctors.
Can anyone help?

Edit: she is willing to seek care outside the city in the surrounding communities (St. Albert, Sherwood Park, Beaumont, Fort Saskatchewan, etc.)

I'm listening to #SpeakingMunicipally while having a cup of coffee on the patio IN 21 DEGREES AND BRIGHT SUNSHINE and I just watched an ant carry a thing that was a lot bigger than the ant itself and this is pretty much exactly what Ive been waiting for for MONTHS
(Ok not the ant part, as such. But you get what I mean)
Yes we do! And another thing I noticed in the original Bsky post was that a number of people were mentioning how a lot of REITs own commercial properties, not just residential. Not sure if they were trying to insinuate that makes it any better, but having dealt with commercial landlords in my previous business, I can attest that this is also a major problem. Small businesses are at the mercy of vicious gouging landlords, and hardly anybody (except McDonald's) owns any of the property they do business in. Commercial landlords are heartless (as we saw during the COVID pandemic), and they are driving up costs for all retail products, and causing many businesses to fail. Even stable, profitable businesses are being forced to shut down or move when commercial landlords decide to sell off the property to new developers, like in one neighborhood in my city (#yeg) where an entire mall is putting all tenants out of business to shut down and build new condos.
(Note: Alberta Health Services was working out of Westmount mall. They probably had some ownership in the infrastructure, which Danielle Smith has now given away to her Alberta Infrastructure to "redistribute" for profit. That's probably the main reason why Westmount mall is suddenly closing down so quickly after the April 1st sell-off... maybe somebody could confirm if there is a connection here?) #abpoli
Of course, as a renter for my family I'm also heavily hit by the "investments" in residential properties, but I just need to point out how bad it is from every direction you look at it.
`We are actually less than seven years from an active airport to somebody living here,” [Tom Lumsden] said. “I know suburban neighbourhoods that have taken the better part of a decade to go from farmer’s field to where people are living.”
`Recently, things seem to be taking off. A 90-townhouse project is under way, four- to six-story buildings are coming, and another 90-unit apartment-style development is about to begin construction.'

April 25, 1912 and it's The Best Subdivision at Vintage Edmonton:
Every morning this week has started with a "pinch me" moment as I've tapped my (temporary) badge and walked out onto the second floor of City Hall from the elevator.
I'm thrilled - and humbled - to be able to support my Councillor and my community in this new capacity.
I've struggled with "impostor syndrome" this week, but I'm sure that will pass.
It's weird to think that the hashtag #yegcc directly includes me now.
Sunday Apr 27 at 'human heart', Chronos will present Billy Joel's "Lullaby" as set by Philip Lawson. Here are Voces8 and the King's Singers singing it... join us Sunday to hear it live!
Melodically inspired by Gregorian chant, Lullaby stands out as one of the most dreamy and tender tunes in Billy Joel's catalogue. The simple, timeless melody was released in 1994.

Prior to the beginning of the #Covid19 #pandemic, I could count on zero hands how often #BabyBel cheese was damaged or contaminated.
BabyBel makes one cheese that seems safe for my body, and since 2011 I've eaten it daily. However, since 2020, I've now had at LEAST 10 separate mould issues, all on non-expired cheese, purchased from different stores and locations around Edmonton.

`#LeliaLawson [thought] that if #Canada could somehow figure out how to use the whole #hemp plant, it could support the #hempeconomy, the #bioeconomy, and create a #rotationalcrop. She also recalled thinking that waste products from hemp processing could be commercialized in #fibre #production and #fuel “a new industry in Canada.”'
Awesome idea! I think I've seen this building on 101 street / 106 ave. We could use a lot more #solar #siding here in the land of dinosaur farts.
