Clocking buttons on a form doesn't inspire #creativity, it doesn't feel powerful, everyone's doing it, it can't inspire #curiosity.. Now, typing a few commands into the #cli, makes you feel like a powerful level 99 #wizard and makes you want to dig round in your infinite bag of holding.

I guess what I'm saying, is if you are new to the #homelab or #selfhosted space,... Ditch #wireguard #web #gui apps and use the #terminal

#Poll time! What do you think about task-based UIs and near to or pretty much non-existent window management?

Though I use Ubuntu for my daily work, I also run a Fedora VM for my fedora packaging jobs. Today updated Fedora from 40 to 42 and chose Cosmic Desktop (alpha) from System76 instead of stock gnome I used in F40. Though I am using safe mode as enabling graphic acceleration in VM setup is PITA, but it's still a refreshing look. The auto tiling feature of windows is very useful.

Recently become obsessed with #repo (the game).

It's funny how, even as #enshittification degrades the user experience of commercial software applications people still complain about the bad #UI design of #OpenSource projects.

At what point do people get so tired of #DarkPatterns they become willing to put up with #Gnome UI choices?

Or, alternatively, at what point do Open Source projects realize they can own entire application categories by simply providing a world class UI?

What are all you #GUI front-enders using for design? I'm still super partial to my notebooks of graph paper, I've tried a few computer UI designers but I'm just not seeing the utility. Any of these e-ink-stylus solutions any good? I just can't see myself designing on anything digital. I've a few tattoo artist friends who swear by the iPads, I know UI design isn't exactly equivalent.

#GUI s that need to improve: #Apple #iOS immediate settings that are pulled down from the left top: the gauge for luminosity (screen brightness) is finicky. If you don't hint it dead-on, the window closes. Do better, Apple. Do better.
