Inspired by the toot from @matt303 - here's a dreadful photo of me in about 1978.
If I remember correctly, I was doing T4 (Thyroxine) assays using radioactive Iodine on serum samples. This would have been using the Amersham International testing kits. The machine / display may well have been some sort of geiger counter.
The photo was definately taken at the old Papworth Hospital in Papworth Everard in #Cambridgeshire

The biological world is awash in #chemical signals.

Some molecular messages find their targets; most linger unread in the environment.

But sometimes, other #species — chemical eavesdroppers, bystanders or visitors — can pick up and interpret the signals in their own way.

If the message is powerful enough, the impact can ripple out across an #ecosystem.

First Roll of Film - Franconia Sculpture Park, MN : Skallagrim by Peter Lundberg | Pentax KX, 50mm, Fuji 400

The received wisdom has always been that spacecraft need to be as microbe-free as possible, but our @ScienceDesk shared this New Scientist story that says the situation might be more complex. “On the space station, astronauts often get rashes, unusual allergies, fungal or bacterial infections, as well as activation of latent viruses such as Epstein-Barr,” writes Michael Le Page. Professor Pieter Dorrestein of the University of California San Diego told Le Page his theory is that the immune system needs to be periodically “pinged.”
