I drove 300 miles in rural Virginia, then asked police to send me their public surveillance footage of my car. Here’s what I learned.
Anyone might wonder how often they are caught on police cameras that operate 24/7. I spent a day driving, and over a month trying to get the answer.

"The idea that a law enforcement agency will claim the images that we see in this story are “investigative” in nature — and need to be protected from me — tells me that they are worried about something else. What is it?

It’s a paradigm shift where we go from having an expectation of privacy even in public spaces to its inverse. Not only do we not have a right to privacy in public; we don’t even have a right to see ourselves as the government and police might see us — a set of still moments in place and time from which they, not us, can decide what our story is. "

You don’t see many of these in the UK. A 57 Plymouth I believe, but with harsh sodium street lights I’m not sure if it was yellow or white. I’m sure I remember reading most left the factory in white, but thankfully it wasn’t red and driving itself…

Traffic on beaches
It's the Wild West - turning beach ecology into a Woolies car park

Off-road vehicles are allowed to cause "serious ecological harm" to beaches, dunes and estuaries ecosystems. Vehicles traffic is causing "unequivocal serious and widespread damage" to coastal dune ecosystems. "All of the species had suffered negative effects caused by off-road vehicles. The four-by-fours running over them basically crush them to death."

"Professor Schlacher said the Noosa North Shore, Rainbow Beach, K'gari and Bribie Island were among the car-accessible beaches that were being "pummelled to death"". On Bribie Island "there can be 1,200 vehicles on the beach in one day, and that's ridiculous. It's just like a Woolies car park."
