It’s #azalea season in #BatonRouge #Louisiana and this time I thought I’d share the white flowering variety. These particular shrubs were formed into a hedge in front of a historical bungalow in the #SpanishTown neighborhood. I figured they would be of interest to #bloomscrolling and #gardening. The key to getting these type of blooms is not to prune in the fall after the buds are set. If you do that you will only see flowers on the inside of the shrub.

Today I saw these old style #camellias while walking in downtown #BatonRouge #Louisiana. I was struck by the rose like flowers. I thought they would be a good topic for #bloomscrolling. Since they are cultivated, they probably are #gardening material as well. Camellias are such great flowers, because they are evergreen and bloom in the late winter when little else is growing. #Bromeliad fans might notice a few sprigs of #Tillandsia growing on the stems of the bush.

#louisiana General Election is THIS Saturday, December 7, with voters statewide set to vote on 4 constitutional amendments, and #batonrouge residents on the next mayor-president!

On election day, polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m., and anyone in line at 8 p.m. can vote.

To find the proper voting location, registered voters should have received an information card in the mail indicating their polling place based on their address..

The registration deadline passed on Nov. 16, so voters should confirm their registration status before heading to the polls. All voters must have a photo ID such as a driver's license, military identification or an LA Wallet digital driver's license. Those without an ID can obtain a Louisiana special identification card by presenting their voter registration information to the Louisiana Office of Motor Vehicles or casting their vote via their signature on a voter affidavit. #uspol #election #election2024 #uspolitics #vote

Gov. Landry wants to flatten the corporate tax rate—from 7.5% in the highest bracket—and install a flat 3% tax rate for all businesses no matter how much profit they take.

How will #Louisiana survive the loss of revenue? Cuts to spending, of course.

Didn’t we try this under Jindal? Didn’t we all see how terrible that was?

Contact your representatives and urge them to oppose this madness!

#America's Notorious '#CancerAlley' Is Even More #Toxic Than We Thought

A new study finds levels of the #carcinogen ethylene oxide that are nine times higher than those estimated by the #EPA’s models.

"Since the 1980s, the 85-mile stretch of the #MississippiRiver that connects #NewOrleans and #BatonRouge, #Louisiana, has been known as “Cancer Alley.” The name stems from the fact that the area’s residents have a 95% greater chance of developing cancer than the average American. A big reason for this is the concentration of industrial facilities along the corridor — particularly #petrochemical manufacturing plants, many of which emit ethylene oxide, an extremely potent toxin that is considered a carcinogen by the Environmental Protection Agency and has been linked to breast and lung cancers."
