Heres a native plant that always makes me smile when I see it: Grindelia integrifolia, better known as Puget Sound gum plant. The name comes from the unopened flower buds, which exude a sap that's a lot like rubber cement. Native to WA, OR, and BC coastlines, you see them along beaches and salt marshes a lot. They apparently do OK in a garden setting as well. Pictured here with the Puget-Soundiest possible background: a WA State Ferry.

Oh, look! With all the shit going on in the world, our propagated Hoya decided to bloom anyway!
Stir fry for dinner tonight.
Summer and I went to the garden to pick some green beans, shelling peas and tomatoes.
We got distracted by the flowers.
A colorful side quest.
We did manage to harvest the veggies too. At least enough for dinner.

Solitary honey bees on the small propagated hydrangea flowers. This is the second time I’ve noticed a bee on hydrangeas. I always thought they didn’t do much for pollinators—I guess I was wrong?!
huh. I guess it IS still #ceanothus season for some cultivars. #bloomscrolling
