Someone here boosted a post I can't find that was about one of use-cases for AI was handling loneliness.

That forced me on some tangential thought track, contemplating that working with AI (let's put it aside if worth it or not for now) triggers brain circuits similar to working with human peers (non-scientific assumption/observation).

Now there's a profession where workers are say 95% forced to use AI (even if the meeker, non-LLM kind): #translators. They get pretranslated text....

"I sometimes think that if, as the result of an accident, I were to lose my knowledge of Japanese, there would not be much left for me. Japanese, which at first had no connection with my ancestors, my literary tastes, or my awareness of myself as a person, has become the central element of my life." —Donald Keene

「地震や津波、原発事故があっても日本人が落ち着いていたことに感心しました。日本人が好きです。日本人として死にたい」

“I admired how calm Japanese people were in the face of a disaster that included an earthquake, tsunami, and nuclear incident. I love Japanese people. I would like to die a Japanese man.”

He became naturalized and lived out the rest of his life in Japan, passing away at 96 on February 24th, 2019.

I'm looking for a transliteration tool for English words to Thai pronunciation, as Thai has a phonetic alphabet.

I'm learning Thai and my MIL wants to learn English so I want to make flashcard/post it's that show
the English word : LIGHT
the Thai pronunciation of LIGHT: ________
The Thai word for LIGHT: แสงสว่าง
The English phonetic of แสงสว่าง: S̄æng s̄ẁāng

Any #linguists #polyglots or #translators or #thai speakers that could help me out? Please boost until we find each other. Thanks!

→ Turkey’s translators are training the AI tools that will replace them
restofworld.org/2025/turkeys-t

“The trends are global. In November, the Netherlands’ largest publisher announced it would use AI to translate certain books, with humans only involved in light edits. In the UK, over a third of 12,500 translators said they have lost work to machines.”

Rest of World · Desperate for work, translators train the AI that’s putting them out of workTranslators in Turkey are at risk of being replaced by LLMs, and having diminished skills and fewer career options for all but elite scholars.

Hello Fediverse. This is my #Introduction. I'm an audiovisual and editorial #translator looking to connect with fellow #translators and #language lovers to exchange ideas on: why languages are great, why translation is amazing, and how we can navigate the #translation industry now AI is becoming more and more impactful. Some topics that interest me: inclusive language, inclusive communication, inclusion, linguistic varieties, linguistic prejudice. #Xl8
