Gratulation! Ist auf jeden Fall besser so. 
Dieses Pseudo-berufliche Facebook, brrr. Diese Möchtegern Consulting-Epidemie dort ist ja kaum auszuhalten. Das ist keine Träne wert, IMHO.
Aber direkte Kontakte über keine Milliardärsplattform sind heute wohl einiges wert. Oder eine weitere Idee: Ein neuer, privater und beruflich orientierter #IRC Kanal aufsetzen vielleicht? 
Oder eine „berufliche“ #Fediverse Instanz ins Leben rufen?

Today's design brainworm: Matrix, but usable like Discord, and e2e encryption by default. Biggest usability win would be not losing all the messages when the server gets upgraded. 
Not even writing this one down, I don't have time.
Update: not sure what Matrix server I was that bit about losing messages, but apparently it’s wrong!

Today I cobbled together a weird construction where I managed to sent updates on our local newsnet (nntp) forum to rss and then have the feed announced as new posts on our IRC server.
And I feel like all this must have been solved before and easier but it's not like you can find this stuff doing a search anymore.

Honestly, the open standards internet is still there, beneath the surface. 
I've got my user generated content here on the #fediverse, my spoken word content in #Castamatic powered by open #RSS feeds and #Podcasting20, I read my articles in @NetNewsWire, again from regular ole RSS, and I can chat on #IRC or @matrix. It may not be the mainstream any more unfortunately, but it's still alive and going, protect it.

@defanor AFAIK there is no fully bidirectional channel<->MUC bridge, but Biboumi will allow XMPP users to join an IRC channel and will have a mostly-native feel for both sides (/whois and some channel operator things from the XMPP side are slightly awkward). It's maintained at https://codeberg.org/poezio/biboumi
I've been using it for years and even gave up irssi in favor of poezio+biboumi
You can set up a dedicated instance for your ircd and let users join via e.g. #support@irc.prosody.tld
