Freeform crochet circles in shades of orange. Probably will end up as a batwing top... imagine the binary sunset scenes in Star Wars... but with more suns!

Finished! The shawl inspired by the old churchyard in Stirling is done. No posh yarn in this one but lots of surface work. Ended up more cosplay than everyday! Thinking abstract gravestones, lichen, dying leaves, rowan berries, hips, bindweed, spiders' webs and snail shells. One for next Halloween! As ever, no pattern.
Start of a new project - batwing-sleeved top. The plan - 2 setting suns (a la Tattoine) in these glorious oranges, pinks and golds on the front and waxing, waning and full moons on the back (maiden, mother, crone) in greys, black and blues. All DK or 4-ply, merino mix or BFL, most hand dyed by independents.
WIP freeform crochet shawl, now nearly 6ft wide. Inspired by an autumn visit to Stirling and the Old Town Cemetery. To think it started off with that small Australia-shaped bit just before Christmas! Lots of surface work to do and length to add. No very expensive yarns in this one, but there will be some novelty ones in the surface work.

Hooray! Finally, I made it to 600 followers! How my latest freeform crochet WIP is getting on. A shaped shawl formed on my tailor's dummy - changed my mind about a throw. Abstract, colours inspired by an autumn trip to Stirling and a spectacular graveyard in the Old Town on a very cold but sunny day. I'm planning lots of surface embellishment.

The start of a new project - a blanket for my new craft room in mostly greens and greys. I want it to be truly abstract freeform crochet and this is the first scrumble. I want to learn more stitches rather than stick to my usual basics, bobbles and fans! Does it look like Australia minus Queensland?
Hi, @MandyCanUDigIt! Would my afghan creations count as #freeformcrochet?
So, you may know that I make a lot of custom crochet toys for people who send me photos or drawings of what they would like. I use a lot of amigurumi of course, but the rest is all freeform crochet. And it all started here with this very wall hanging a few years ago. I just hooked up the various stitches and used yarn colours that suited the narrative I was trying to tell, which was a beach with cliffs and a sky above. It was completely freeing and it made me realise that I could make things without having to use patterns if I wanted to. I called it "Painting with Yarn". Now I paint and sculpt with yarn when I make the custom toys I have turned into a passion and a little money earner on the side. It's very fulfilling and a lot of fun. Give it a go when you have a mo'

Seems a good time to reshow my Halloween jumper from last year - the first freeform item of clothing I'd made in my first year of crocheting. All sorts of yarn in there mostly bought from The Woolly Monkey in Mevagissey, Cornwall. No patterns - I winged it! Going to wear it for a hospital visit tomorrow.
My Halloween freeform crochet project is finished - calling it 'Collision Course', inspired by colliding galaxies. Always a big eye, of course! No pattern, all out of my own twisted mind. Short sleeveless dress with a 5ft wrap. Scrumbles joined with chains, Irish lace-style.
Hello again all! My old instance is closing, which is a real shame, so I've gone for the big one... join me for #gardening #plants #books #crochet #freeformcrochet #journalism #fibreart #alternative stuff #music #mythology and general spooky stuff. I'm a Geordie of Scots ancestry still happily ensconced in NE England.
Finally finished... the Georgia O'Keeffe/organs jacket. Mostly merino/nylon from independent dyers. Spot the eyes, lungs, brain and hearts. The Georgia O'Keeffe references include the goat skull/flower, Jack-in-the-Pulpit, grey charcoal spirals and abstract flower close-ups (that's what I'm calling them).

Cat/crochet sandwich on my lap. George making construction impossible! He will not be moved. Prize for spotting the pair of lungs - the irony is I was told this morning by my GP I have a partially collapsed lung probably due to #covid.
I've only been #crocheting for 10 months and this is the first little blanket I made out of charity shop yarn. Fits in well with Mexican/Indian-style office/basement! Now I've found my true love in #freeformcrochet but thought I'd share my journey one project at a time.
