Somehow lost a mature blue palo verde in my front yard. There’s a wash that drains from the neighboring paddock that cuts between these two “islands” where a mesquite and PV were sort of holding it all together. Going to just plant some prickly pears and a barrel cactus for now, but I need about 3 more mature trees. #sonoran #landscaping #trees #desert

“Sand Dune Abstract” — Sand dune patterns in evening light, Death Valley.

I first photographed this specific subject in Death Valley well over a decade ago, and perhaps closer to two decades. I “discovered” it by accident while driving back from visiting an entirely different feature. I had stopped in this location to photograph other things, and as I scanned the landscape I noticed this section of almost pure sand dunes. The amazing sand dunes of Lençóis Maranhenses in the state of Maranhão in Brazil.
In 1981 the Lençóis Maranhenses have been declared a national park (Parque Nacional dos Lençóis Maranhenses) to protect and preserve this unique eco system. The park covers a protected area of 155.000 ha out of which 90.000 ha are covered with these pitoresque sand dunes which fill with sweet water during the raining season.
