'Washington, inundated with protests, had become a “besieged city,” wrote Henry Kissinger [...] In the moment, few activists could have imagined their resistance was having such dramatic effects. But time showed that their actions had set the stage for #Nixon’s eventual political downfall.'

'Terms like “quislings,” “Thermidor,” “Vichy,” and “submission” have circulated widely in articles denouncing #Columbia’s surrender, zeroing in on betrayal as the proper note to strike. But it is not really betrayal when those committing the action have no investment in the principles betrayed.'

"#Betar US claims responsibility for giving names of pro-Palestinian activists, including #MahmoudKhalil, to the #Trump administration. We examine Betar’s roots, reach, and the institutions that surround it. Who’s backing this group, and why are students its latest target?"

#Berlin ’s #immigration authorities are moving to deport four young foreign residents on allegations related to participation in protests against Israel’s war on #Gaza, an unprecedented move that raises serious concerns over civil liberties in #Germany.

The deportation orders, issued under German migration law, were made amid political pressure and over internal objections from the head of the state of Berlin’s immigration agency. The internal strife arose because three of those targeted for deportation are citizens of European Union member states who normally enjoy freedom of movement between #EU countries.
“You can see it in the U.S. and Germany, too: Political dissent is silenced by targeting the migration status of protesters.”
Some of the allegations are minor. Two, for example, are accused of calling a police officer “fascist” — insulting an officer, which is a crime. Three are accused of demonstrating with groups chanting slogans like “From the river to the sea, Palestine Will be Free” — which was outlawed last year in Germany — and “#freePalestine.” Authorities also claim all four shouted #antisemitic or anti-Israel slogans, though none are specified.

The Intercept · Germany Turns to U.S. Playbook: Deportations Target Gaza War ProtestersBy Hanno Hauenstein

"What led to the arrest of #MahmoudKhalil, a prominent pro-#Palestine activist at #ColumbiaUniversity? Although he is a United States permanent resident, Khalil is facing deportation. The #Trump administration says it's part of a broader effort to combat anti-Semitism, but critics see a chilling attack on political speech..."

German police yesterday violently broke up an International Women's Day march in support of #Palestine and #solidarity with Palestinian #women who continue to struggle under Israeli occupation.

Last year, #AmnestyInternational sharply criticized the #Berlin police for using excessive force against demonstrators at a pro-Palestinian demonstration in Berlin.

Our bookstore is no stranger to unwanted government attention; we’ve been threatened by city officials, visited by the FBI, and surveilled by police. Historically, the investigation and prosecution of activists has aimed to disrupt our movements for change, sow fear and isolation among participants, break intergenerational bonds, and criminalize struggles for freedom. But we can overcome these attacks through principled action and uncompromising solidarity.

Firestorm has made the following commitments:
• We will minimize non-required collection and storage of information about customers, authors, event participants, and others who engage with our co-op.
• We will resist, and publicly disclose, any attempt to obtain such information when it exists.
• We will decline to answer questions from police and government agents.
• We will fight any court or government subpoena, process, or demand for records, testimony, or evidence.
• We will support those in our community who face state repression, regardless of “guilt” or “innocence.”
• We will retain legal counsel to defend our freedom to not cooperate with the State.

We know that these actions cannot guarantee safety for our members or community, but to cooperate in the face of our own repression, or the repression of others, would be a profoundly unsafe betrayal. Noncooperation is both the ethical and strategic position for those who want to build a new world, but must contend with the old one.

#Thesaloniki , #Greece: Since the morning hundreds of people had gathered at the courts to support the 112 people arrested during yesterday's march for the 6 December anniversary.
Shortly after 12 noon, the riot police, without any reason whatsoever, began to violently push back parents, friends and companions of the accused. Very quickly they attacked with chemicals and vicious beatings.
So far there is no information about arrests and so far it is known that one girl was slightly injured by the riot police attack.

@EUCommission

You guys really are some sweethearts.

Protecting the "#FreePress" by legalizing #Spying on #Journalists and encouraging #StateRepression against unwanted #MediaCoverage.

While telling US you're doing the opposite of that.

Really hope for your safety you don't have any mirrors at home, they'd shatter the moment you look at them.

#NDNCollective Rallies in front of White House Calling for Executive #Clemency for #LeonardPeltier

For Immediate Release: September 18, 2024

Washington, DC – "NDN Collective rallied in front of the White House today and called for executive clemency for Leonard Peltier. At 80 years old, #Peltier has been incarcerated for nearly 50 years and is now in very poor health. Time is of the essence to release Leonard Peltier, the longest held #Indigenous political prisoner in U.S. history.

"On April 19, 2024, Peltier’s request for a compassionate release was denied by the Bureau of Prisons. On July 2, 2024, Peltier was denied parole after a full parole hearing was held on June 10, 2024. Peltier will not be eligible for another hearing for 15 years, when he will be 94. As a result of this denial and Peltier’s age, #ExecutiveClemency is his best opportunity to be released.

"NDN Collective is spending the week in Washington to meet with elected officials, calling upon representatives and federal officials to take action on a number of issues including supporting the release of Leonard Pelteir. The following statements were shared on behalf of the organization:

"'President Biden now has the opportunity to solidify his already extraordinary legacy in Indian Country as the U.S. president that granted clemency to Leonard Peltier and finally right a grave #injustice,' said Holly Cook Macarro, Government Affairs for NDN Collective. 'In the next few months we are going to organize our many allies in Congress and around the world to unite their voices and support the call for clemency from President #Biden.

"'America’s longest living and incarcerated Indigenous political prisoner, Leonard Peltier, is a #BoardingSchool survivor,' said Nick Tilsen, NDN Collective President and CEO. 'He lived through the atrocities of those schools and while this country is reckoning with the traumas inflicted on our people by these institutions, it’s important to lift up all our elders who survived boarding schools, Leonard included.'

"'The fact that Leonard is still behind bars is the result of a longstanding campaign against him by the #FBI,' said Janene Yazzie, Director of Policy and Advocacy for NDN Collective. 'Despite the plethora of evidence that shows the system injustices that led to his incarceration, the narrative of the FBI continues to paint Leonard as a murderer. As we move forward, we need to look at all the research and good work done by our partners and other #HumanRights organizations on Leonard’s case to keep ourselves informed.'

"To support Leonard’s freedom, NDN Collective is asking people to:

- Call senators and urge them to support executive clemency for Leonard Peltier

- Watch the latest #RedNationMovement podcast on Leonard’s case

- Download the toolkit at freeleonard-peltier.com

- Text FREELEONARD to 50302 for more updates"
