@anneapplebaum last time I checked #Germany didn't randomly jail people off the streets or allow for years of jailtime without a court case, hearing and proper due process.

  • Nor does it have even the same incarceration rate or even number or acts as "outsorced GITMO" for a christofacist regime.

  • And unlike the U.S. legal residents and people with Visas don't get jailed or deported or denied entry.

Obviously #Trump and his goons don't like that #FreeSpeech doesn't mean #ConsequenceFreeSpeech in #Germany.

I do expect @AuswaertigesAmt and espechally @Bundesregierung to publicly protest this, given that any impartial and independent scoring system not systematically biased to #US preferences will attest Germany to have better metrics in every regards compared to the #USA.

Why it matters when western governments deliberately blur the lines between the military, administrative and political wings of organisations they accuse of terrorism.

Amongst other ill effects explored by Jonathan Cook, it has a massive chilling effect on public discourse, especially when combined with far-reaching, broadly written 'anti-terrorism' laws prohibiting any speech or behaviour that could be taken to be supportive of such organisations.

In the UK, simply praising the work of doctors saving lives in Gaza potentially leaves you open to prosecution under anti-terrorism laws.

Peter Hain says #UK govt digging itself into hole over #Palestine Action

“It will end in tears for the government,” he said. “We are seeing retired #magistrates, retired * serving #doctors * all sorts of people being #arrested * now effectively being equated with terrorists such as al-Qaida, which is absolutely wrong”

If legal challenge to proscription is successful, it would be a mercy to all, including the government

My answer to #YvetteCooper here would be this.

No one knows about anything fully or completely because that's not how human #knowledge works.

At some point we all make judgments with incomplete #information. That's how we form opinions.

And we must be able to express those opinions freely or we don't have #freespeech.
