Şu anda silip tekrar "üçüncü defa" kurduğum Raspberry Pi OS'u kullanıyorum ve artık yine berbat edip tekrar sıfırdan kurulum yapmak istemiyorum!
Ne zaman kullanılabilir olursa o zaman zâten gelecek olan güncelleme ile geçerim!
@lymenzies From my own experience I can tell that even the Original #RaspberryPi and #PiZero can run #RaspberryPiOS all day long and will run circles around the orginal #EeePC701, only getting beaten by the #Vaio #P11Z when it comes to #RAM and #IO options.
Granted a #CM4 or #CM5 with > 2GB RAM will shift the tides but those alone cost more than a used #Wyse3040 and #upcycling a #ThinClient into something like a tiny luggable is propably more budget friendly and useful anyway, espechally since built-in Gigabit #Ethernet and #USB 3.0 really kick ass, so you'd propably be better served doing some #PoE / Wide-Range DC-in & battery setup to make good use of the oversized build volume at hand.
Maybe take some "THICC" 21700 LiFePO4 cells or one of those #LiFePO4 motorcycle batteries for a spin? Pretty shure that you can sqeeze battery runtime measured in DAYS out of it without much tweaking.
Btw I switched to #zsh and my god life is so much better with autocomplete and syntax highlighting

To me @OS1337 is just an attempt to a minimalist #Linux distro because I want some #reproduceable & #auditable #firmware for various other projects, and both @yoctoproject and #RaspberryPiOS 'lite' seem rather excessive to me.
I just think that it can have serious benefits being less distracting and allowing me (and others) to just use basically any hardware to get work done...
@lmemsm basically the Idea behind it is to be a brutally simple #toybox + #musl / #linux distro that grew out of the necessity for me to actually think about #firmware for some projects.
Basically I want something that is so simple and auditable that it's practical to make it pass any #verification demands for #SecureTerminal|s in #CriticalInfrastructure and #Communications.
Not to mention a #GNUfree - #Linux distro is the way to go if I want that thing to not get bricked constantly by minor #GlibC-changes...

Help request to the #Linux hivemind: I got a #Raspberry_Pi 500 and created two users, a root and a non-root user for my son. For some reason the #RaspberryPiOS defaults to log you in without asking for a password, which in my case is undesirable (as I want my son to be able to log in his account without having to log out from mine). If I go in the setting I can disable this, but the side effect now is that lightdm doesn't manage to start when I boot, and has to be started manually by a root user (i.e. me) every time (n.b. without lightdm you can only access the shell and not the graphical interface).
How do I get out of this?

Besides #RaspberryPiOS there's like @bunsenlabs / #BunsenLabs and me dabbling (@OS1337) tho technically they all are #i486 as they use #Linux kernels beyond the cutoff date for #i386 support.
@ryanc propably because #RaspberryPiOS just uses a linux-firmware metapackage from #Debian and they don't differenciate in their build process beyond #32bit and #64bit ?
Lately I've been doing more #SelfHosting again due to the current situation. Of course, I'm paying particular attention to power consumption and noise. After good experiences with the #ARM64 architecture, even with power-hungry applications such as Mastodon, I'm now using the smartphone technology for my homeservers, too.
There are #SBCs with more open hardware, but the #RaspberryPi is widely available, well documented, powerful and inexpensive. And it is available with up to 16 GB of RAM.
Anyone operating a server on the Internet must install #security updates quickly. However, many people forget to restart running software so that the new version runs instead of the old one. The #needrestart tool helps with this on Debian-based Linux systems, which unfortunately is usually not pre-installed.
On my Raspberry Pi 4, needrestart always runs correctly (automatically after apt upgrade). On my Raspberry Pi 5, however, I first had to create a configuration file as described by the main developer here:

Previously, the tool always claimed that a reboot was necessary because it thought an outdated Linux kernel was running.
Next, I want to activate #LUKS hard drive encryption on both raspis. Unfortunately, this is not as easy under #Raspbian or #RaspberryPiOS as on other Debian systems. If you have managed this: Please let me know how you did it!
In letzter Zeit mache ich aus gegebenem Anlass wieder mehr #SelfHosting. Natürlich achte ich dabei besonders auf den Stromverbrauch. Nach guten Erfahrungen mit der #ARM64-Architektur selbst bei leistungshungrigen Anwendungen wie Mastodon setze ich jetzt auch zuhause auf auf die aus Smartphones bekannte Technologie.

Wer einen Server am Internet betreibt, muss zügig #Sicherheitsupdates einspielen. Viele vergessen aber, laufende Software neuzustarten, damit die neue Version läuft statt der alten. Dabei hilft auf debianbasierten Linux-Systemen das Tool #needrestart, das leider meist nicht vorinstalliert ist.
Auf meinem Raspberry Pi 4 läuft needrestart schon immer korrekt (automatisch nach apt upgrade). Auf meinem Raspberry Pi 5 musste ich aber erst eine Konfigurationsdatei anlegen, wie es der Hauptentwickler hier beschreibt:

Bis dahin behauptete das Tool immer, dass ein reboot nötig sei, weil ein veralteter Linux-Kernel laufe.

Seriously, I think that #Microsoft should be sued into insolvency for the way they create 100% avoidable #eWaste with #CensorBoot and #Windows11 to the point that if I didn't have my current job, I'd basically collect all the old machines from companies that are stupid enough to use #Windows [and they'll likely give them away for free minus SSDs / HDDs instead of paying €5+ for #recycling], shove some #Linux on [i.e. #RaspberryPiOS, #BunsenLabsLinux or #UbuntuLTS] and sell those off as used electronics for a good profit.

O yüzden ana makinede yüklü Steam'de açılan oyunun sesinin Raspberry Pi 5 (8GB)'ten nasıl "çatırtı" yada "patırtı" şeklinde duyulduğunu paylaşamıyorum.
