On social security programmes in #SouthAsia and how #Pakistan 's can be modified to help not oonly poverty alleviation but also #ClimateAdaptation AND #ClimateMitigation

Did not know India's and Bangladesh's programmes were so far ahead of the world

Whether we call it #EnergyModernization or #EnergyTransition or #RenewableEnergy, with #ClimateChange becoming undeniable the fossilized parts of our energy industry are adapting tactics to keep us locked in the past-- and ruin our chances for #ClimateMitigation.

We collaborated with the #SabinCenterForClimate ChangeLaw to adapt their comprehensive #debunking of #RenewableEnergyMyths for easier access. We're highlighting each of 33 articles, one per week.

We need the #BCgovernment to get the message from concerned communities across B.C. that we must work together and with urgency to #protect #OldGrowthForests and #reform #forestry practices. To do so, the next steps are crucial:

#StopLogging in the most at-risk #OldGrowth #forests, and other #ecosystems identified by First Nations, by providing promised funding for #LoggingDeferrals.

Provide full #FinancialSupport to #FirstNations for long-term #IndigenousLed #conservation solutions, including #compensation for lost revenues and employment.

Move away from the “all or nothing” approach common in forestry practices across B.C. and most evident in #ClearcutLogging. In its place, work with First Nations, local residents, industry and other stakeholders to implement forestry practices that prioritize important values like #biodiversity, #habitat, #WaterRetention, #Indigenous #CulturalUse, and #tourism.

Sierra Club BCProtect communities from drought and wildfires by taking better care of forests | Sierra Club BCWe can protect communities from drought and wildfires by taking better care of forests. Will you call for a reform in forest stewardship?

"The increasing severity of #wildfires and #drought highlights that reforming #ForestStewardship – taking better care of the forests, including safeguarding #OldGrowthForests – is one of our best hopes to protect communities across B.C.

Harmful #forestry practices like #clearcutting and #unsustainable #IndustrialLogging make extreme heat and wildfires worse. #Clearcuts are #tinderboxes, more prone to creating embers because dead trees and branches dry out in the hot sun and become more #flammable. Tree plantations and improperly tended young forests also increase wildfire risk: Younger trees have thinner bark and low-hanging branches that can act as ladder fuels, and the trees are often planted too close together, making it easy for fire to spread.

Fortunately, intact and properly managed #forests are more resilient to the worsening wildfires and heatwaves. For example, #OldGrowth #rainforests have dense canopies which provide cooling shade that resists fire. They are cooler and wetter than young forests, acting as giant sponges. Old-growth trees in the drier interior have thick bark, high branches and are widely spaced which all reduce #WildfireRisk.

The provision of US$100b in #ClimateFinance per year was promised by 2020, with a #GreenClimateFund being set up in 2010–11 and national contributions commencing in subsequent years. An updated agreement in 2012 clarified that these funds had to be "new and additional", i.e. not simply a rebranding of existing #ForeignAid. And they had to be made to the international Green Climate Fund, not via other bilateral or multilateral agreements.

Disputes over the international distribution of responsibilities for funding #ClimateMitigation and #ClimateAdaptation measures—costly measures that would benefit everyone—had long been one of the main sticking points in the decades of UN climate negotiations since 1992 when the #UNFCCC was established. (UNFCCC = United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, i.e. the international agreement to have international climate negotiations in the first place, and how to go about those negotiations.)

What is Australia's fair share when it comes to financing the necessary climate transition?

In a headline today, the Australian government has pledged AU$150m in #ClimateFinance for Pacific nations.

Good news, right? Isn't this PM Anthony #Albanese "ending the #ClimateWars" by actually doing what #Australia ought to have done years ago? Let's consider that assumption.

Back in 2009 at the much hyped, but ultimately deeply disappointing international climate negotiations in #Copenhagen known as #COP15, one step forward that was agreed, even as more comprehensive or ambitious agreements slipped away was that the wealthy nations of the world (including #Australia) collectively pledged to be providing US$100b each year to help the poorer nations transition away from #FossilFuels (#ClimateMitigation) and develop in ways that help societies adapt to the warming that cannot be mitigated (#ClimateAdaptation).

Thesis, Antithesis, Synthesis.
This is the basis of all negotiation, isn't it?
The petrostates, put crudely, have the oil & intend to go on producing it. (Thesis)
Would-be green, non-petrostates, will try to live without fossil fuels. (Antithesis).
In order to have any hope of #ClimateMitigation, we need to achieve some sort of tradeoff between us (Synthesis).
Otherwise, even supposing we are 'the good guys', we will fail?

Realistic, #science based #ClimateAction for the people - not polluting the air, land & water, & sustaining natural habitats

If you want to study how an industrial economy can begin to develop policies that evidently will, if promoted & incentivized, translate into ecologically sustainable lifestyles (development), then you need to look towards the country of #Wales #UK

Our planet is awesome and will help us out if we just let it.

"#Reintroducing just nine #species or groups of species (including African forest elephants, American bison, fish, gray wolves, musk oxen, sea otters, sharks, whales and wildebeest) would help limit #ClobalWarming to less than the 1.5°C (2.7°F) threshold set by the #ParisAgreement, according to the report."

Our work in a research article in Sustainability (MDPI) about Climate Bonus (#Klimabonus) has achieved more than 100.000 views after two years!

So proud that our work on #climatemitigation responses well in the scientific community. We need more #transdisciplinary work as collaboration between #researchers and practicioners.

MDPICreating Monetary Collaborative Spaces for Social and Ecological TransformationComplementary currencies have spread to many places around the world at the beginning of the 21st century. Creating sustainable economic cycles and short transport routes are often the goals of introducing them. Due to their manageability, regional currencies can be embedded in debates of regional economics and sustainability. Above all, they are suitable for democratic experiments that can show in real environments whether currency designs work as examples of collaborative communities and research. One of these monetary experiments is the climate bonus, which is linked to the local currency Chiemgauer. The research path goes into the daily routine of a real laboratory to find out which methods would be effective enough to deliver carbon savings. The climate bonus creates a monetary network where people can try out new behaviors in a protected space. As a result, three years after the initiation of the project, carbon reductions are above expectations.
