TIL that Blair, perhaps perturbed that Starmer is threatening his faux-centrist plonker preeminence, has got his Institute to weigh in on #NetZero.

It comes as no surprise that Blair has found another niche in which to contribute net zero to improving human prospects.

He is at least right that current Net Zero policies will not work, but not for the reasons he’s trotting out. Absolute prick

Has the Tony Blair Institute just had a big shadowy donation from the #FossilFuel and/or #Nuclear industry?

Carbon capture is very expensive with questionable results…renewables work right now.

Getting to #NetZero matters for any chance of the survival of society as we know it. Implying it’s optional helps whom?

#BigOil not the nation’s poorest.

The Guardian · Climate plan based on phasing out fossil fuels doomed to fail, says Tony BlairBy Jessica Elgot

So #Trump has withdrawn the US from the Paris climate agreement, attacked renewable power, said ‘drill baby drill’ to #FossilFuel industry and doesn’t believe in #NetZero…but sure #Miliband, you’ve scratched around and decided there is ‘common ground’ on the green rebranded concept of #nuclear.

Do you really think #Labour voters will buy that at next week’s local elections?

The Guardian · Britain will find ‘common ground’ with US on energy policy, says MilibandBy Fiona Harvey

Yesterday on the BBC Radio4 Today programme, Ed Miliband was generally good on the priority of phasing out (fossil) hydrocarbons for electricity production.
However, he included nuclear in the low carbon pallette.
This is suspect on at least 2 counts.
1) The toxic radioactive legacy - still no viable solutions and much UK waste waiting at Sellafield.
2) Peak uranium. There won't be enough - see ourfiniteworld.com/2024/11/11/ esp fig 5.

Our Finite World · Nuclear electricity generation has hidden problemsNuclear electricity generation has an immediate problem of not enough uranium from mines. Advanced modular units can't solve this problem fast enough.

Can’t believe this thread on Evan Davis/ #BBC / #HeatPumps has has now been reposted over 400 times!

Overwhelmingly people posting here approve of heat pumps and want to see more of them…that’s great news!

So what makes them controversial? Davis himself seems to think it’s their association with #NetZero, of which the timescale has recently been hotly debated in UK.

Hear his thoughts on this, on the final episode of Happy Heat Pump Podcast:
