Lernprozesse, immer.

Fretboard radius. There’s a topic. Put down some rhythm tracks on the new song last night and used the Tele with 9.5” radius. I found chords a bit unpredictable. Basically open chords with really aggressive fast playing. Then put down some picking triplets over the chords with the Tele and it was a breeze. Tonight I tried the Danelectro 59M with 14” radius for the speedy chords, and no problem. Interesting phenomenon. Curvature. So looks like Dano for the chords and Tele for the triplets in this song. #guitar #recording #music #gearsquad

I've often wondered if i would enjoy the result from singing into a ribbon microphone. Unfortunately I know so little about the ones currently available (or vintage models that actually have an XLR out).

What are your thoughts? Better off using a plug-in to emulate? What models have you tried?

Good basement session tonight. The slow keyboard intro verse section is done and I’m onto the upbeat part of the new song. Put down some rough test guitar tracks to see how it’s gonna work. Got it sorted. Two guitar tracks; chord riffs one side and triplets on the other. May have a third guitar up the middle in the back. Put down a full run through rough vocal tonight too to check timing. Once the guitars are tracked, I’ll do the vocals. Then bass. Song should clock in somewhere around 3:30, which is cool. #music #recording #songwriting

Another basement session tonight. Got the intro keyboards figured out in this new song I’m working on. Part of last night’s issue was first, I didn’t have an entire vocal tracked yet to sync the keyboards; I was using the click/drum track as my guide. The second issue was due to my lack of keyboard proficiency to nail it with a bunch of unknown to me weird chords. So I put a vocal down with the beat track (in this case both drums and click), then I was able to sync the keys more accurately to the vocal. I’ll remove the drums later, as the first part of this song will be just keys and vocal. Then all hell will break loose mid-song when the tempo changes from 66bpm to 140bpm. It also probably helped that I played the chords a fair bit to actually learn the fingering. I dug up my old SM58 and used that for the test vocal track. Wow, I usually track vocals with a large diaphragm condenser mic. What I discovered was that the SM58 has a nice warm frequency response, way different than a condenser. May just use it for this song. Never done that before. You sure have to get up close to the mic with a dynamic. Major learning tonight. #music #recording #songwriting
