Call for poems based on the list of forbidden words issued by USGov

winningwriters.submittable.com

winningwriters.submittable.comWinning Writers - Live and Let DEI Anthology (no fee)"I'm looking for poems where the humorous, satirical, or innovative use of the forbidden words is a central part of the technique or content. If your piece merely happens to include a couple of the words, it's still eligible but may not grab me as much.  "Poems don't need to comment directly on current events. The whole situation of linguistic distortion and politically motivated erasure concerns me as much as the words themselves. You might choose a wholly different 'safe' poetic topic, precisely to show how all of our discourse will be warped by an environment of censorship, whether we're writing about flowers or civil rights. "Whatever your topic, we want fresh takes and subtlety." —Jendi Reiter, editor Submit an original poem that makes creative use of the words that the Trump administration is flagging on government websites and research papers. See the list (PDF). There is no fee to enter. Final judge: Jendi Reiter. We strongly prefer unpublished work that was written for this anthology rather than older poems that happen to include some of the keywords. Poems may be on any topic, but one or more of the keywords should play a significant role in the structure or contents (e.g., a sestina with six of the keywords as the repeating end-words). Satire is welcome. No AI-generated work. No restriction on age or nationality of author. The primary language of the poem should be English. Please omit your name from the file you submit. We prefer 12-point type or larger. Please avoid fancy, hard-to-read fonts. Everyone who enters this contest will receive an electronic copy of the anthology, and it will be made available free to the public. There is no other compensation, just notoriety and justice. If your submission is selected for publication, you agree to give Winning Writers a nonexclusive license to publish your work online with attribution (you may use a pen name). You retain all other rights. You are free, for example, to publish your work in print or online elsewhere, whether or not you are selected for publication in this anthology. Please submit only one poem. If you need help, please email info@winningwriters.com.

Google Docsre:natura #05 – Crescere#Open Call #Experimental Musics #Compilation #Concept #Growth #Biodiversity Synopsis What: Submit audio works inspired by the concept of Growth Deadline: June 29, 2025 Format: WAV, max 8 min Theme: Biodiversity in all its literal and metaphorical forms Compensation: 100 € per selected track (Please – do read the call before submitting) Why do we grow? Should we advance? How should we develop? When do we thrive? Where do we spread? After last year's breezy topic Æther, our fifth annual compilation, re:natura #05 – Crescere asks crucial questions about the concept of growth. Derived from Latin Crescere (to grow – think Crescendo), we want to encourage you to dive deeply into the concept of growth in natural sciences with a focus on biodiversity. Ranging from reproduction and corporal development to population control, from invasive species to degrowth strategies, from metastases to social insects, we invite you to dig into a wealth of subtopics. The more specific, the better: Get inspired by rabbit holes, asian carp, mathematical growth models, Lemmus lemmus, Feedback cybernetics or Ailanthus altissima. In our forthcoming audio compilation we want to examine growth ranging from a microscopic to macroscopic scale – from single cells to whole populations. 🎶 Birds do it, bees do it Even educated fleas do it […] 🎶 We invite sound artists, poets, experimental musicians, researchers and sound designers to share their unique and specific perspectives on the concept of growth. In this Open Call, we are looking for short audio productions concerned with topics of biodiversity: These subtopics may concern the specific representation of species, habitats and ecosystems, the influences on biodiversity, the consequences of biodiversity loss and measures against the loss of biodiversity. Metaphorical, representational as well as literal concepts are welcome. Submissions are due Sunday, June 29, 2025 ℹ️ Important: Please adhere to our submission guidelines (page 2) – only submissions via the Google form will be accepted. Please read all pages carefully. ℹ️ New: Three artists are already confirmed: IDRA, Berenice Llorens and Samaquias Lorta – get to know their work and concepts on page 3. ℹ️ New: As part of the submission, we are offering you the opportunity to categorise your works within our framework (on page 4) – however, you’re still free to find your very own niche. After a subsequent review, a selection of up to 7 titles will be compiled and published on our Bandcamp website. Compensation for each track accepted for the compilation: 100 € gross (before taxes) *** The compilation is curated by Hendrik Klatte and a jury – the selection will be made based on formal requirements and alignment with the overall topic as well as artistic quality and harmony with our self-image. The entire proceeds of the compilation sales on Bandcamp will go to the biodiversity program of Friends Of The Earth Germany. If you have any questions about our project or your submission, please contact label.re.natura@gmail.com
Send us your photographs by email (post [at] papertrail.world). Include some information about the location and how you relate to it. We accept submissions from anywhere in the world!

Your submissions will feed into our ongoing research into the aesthetic and functional aspects of contemporary street library culture in the Netherlands and beyond. This research will serve as the basis for a forthcoming print publication.

Street libraries, or Minibiebs, as they are dubbed in Dutch, are a fascinating and often under-appreciated piece of urban technology. While some of them are built by schools, cultural institutions or even train station architects, the vast majority of Minibiebs are installed and maintained by individual volunteers.

Ranging from repurposed plastic crates or old pieces of furniture to elaborate, purpose built constructions, most Minibiebs are placed on public land. Owing to relatively generous spatial regulations, which tend to allow homeowners and tenants in most Dutch municipalities to make use of the space in front of their house, as long as it does not interfere with foot traffic, the hurdles for placing your own Minibieb are quite low.
