Some gulls are like street pigeons. They flock to urban coastal areas and eat anything humans drop (sometimes before they drop it). The main difference is that gulls (mostly) prefer to swoop in from the air, while pigeons (mostly) like to stay on the ground.
This black-headed gull found something near my feet that I had not noticed. I wondered why it (and then 20 others) swooped down at me, as I had nothing edible with me.

When I had booked our tickets (in March!!) I thought it might be a bit of a treat for the kids to have a 'Special Japanese Meal' on the trip back (don't recall exactly perhaps $12 or so more pp).
Indeed, they were up with some excitement. A nice meal - menu, cloth napkin and all. Interesting 'Japanese' appetizer, but I've learnt that Japan-ified western food is its own category of Japanese food. Deconstructed (Wagyu) gyudon main. The dessert was fantastic.
