Media launch of the IPBES Invasive Alien Species Assessment Report ()

Whatever you believe about invasive species - shelf it for a bit.

This report is about and that doesn't refer just to . It's a complex topic and it's worth learning about it. Many invasive species are spread by the pet sector, usually calling them "". can also spread invasive species as boaters can carry species on their boats and gear. It's just an endless list of ecological , really. But the end result is ecological destabilization which leads to local extinctions for various species, especially animals.

An example that is less about human losing business due to invasive species (which is a common talking point) is the ongoing extinction of frogs 🐸 due to chytrid fungus disease spread by people doing ...many things, but especially the pet trade. Read more about that here: amphibianark.org/the-crisis/ch

I do not think that extinction is good for reducing
suffering. Animals will be dying much more from disease and hunger. Of course, if you're some efilist, this is all good news (mass extinction).

For some counter-narrative, here's an article to read: Convivial Conservation of Novel Ecosystems - Undisciplined Environments undisciplinedenvironments.org/

Here's the report release video with a FAQ at the end:
