Are there any #vegan #gamedeveloper / #softwaredeveloper , #artists or other #contentcreator here, who sell their #software , #art or products not over a platform, which makes rich people richer, but where the money goes to you -> THE #sustainable CREATOR <- directly (e.g. donation based)?
I am desperately trying to figure out a way to 1. find vegan creators and 2. to support them (if I like the product) without others getting a huge piece of it.
Please understand that as long as I support #creators who consume animal products, I also support the exploitative system I am against as a vegan PLUS the huge amount, which goes to rich people, I don't even know.
Trying to do something good and having values to stick with, but doing the opposite is called #cognitivedissonance and I want to get rid of it.
Following #sustainable #creators could help to consume only products, which was created by #mindful people and if I like the creator or the product, I want to be able donate something without any cruelty involved and without compunction.
I am still looking for #vegan #creators
No matter if it's about #art #software #musicproduction #videoproduction #crocheting or other #handcrafting stuff.
If you are vegan and create something, let a post here and describe what you are doing.
Links to your shop, website, donation page or #youtube / #peetube channel are welcome!
@utopify_org hey there!! I sell through etsy but I do direct sales as well if youre ever interested in paintings. I also have a vegan cartoon on my youtube channel which is free to subscribe to & support!
@anendlesswinter Youtube is exactly one of those things I want to avoid, because it is one of the things what makes rich people richer. It isn't for free, it costs data.
I even use an adblocker ( #ublockorigin ) to protect my data and to block as much ads as possible.
Watching ads is like paying the meat for someone.
I am on youtube, too, but it doesn't feel good to support one of the biggest companies and the richest people on this planet.
A friend even told me, she saw ads before my video started and ask me how much I get? I get nothing...
But I've started to mirror all videos to #peertube: https://diode.zone/a/maxmoon/video-channels
How much does etsy take from your sales? I am curious...
@anendlesswinter btw. you can edit your post and put a link to your shop so others will see it directly. Maybe others like the idea, too, to support vegan creators
@utopify_org Not sure if this fits your criteria, but I am a #veganmusician offering my music for free or more precisely via the #paywhatitsworth model on #bandcamp. Feel free to have a listen here: https://amadeuspaulussen.bandcamp.com/ PD: I also plan to provide direct downloads on my website alongside the possibility to make a donation.
@amadeus It's not my taste of music, but I like the concept that people can pay what they think it's worth.
This concept is really fair to people who don't have a lot of money, but are willing to donate/pay.
But I've seen that they take around 15-20% with the headline "Bandcamp Fair Trade Music Policy". I don't think this is fair!
I mean, okay, they need money to keep running the platform, but 15-20% is a little bit over the top.
@utopify_org Thanks for the feedback! I also think it might be too much, which is why I intend to distribute directly in the near future too. I need to do some research on viable ways to donate first though.
@amadeus I am looking for a solution to donate or get donations without a huge part going to people you don't know (or aren't even vegan or are just rich) for a long time.
The best solution I could find is #liberapay (https://liberapay.com/)
They don't take a cut of the payments, they are funded by their own account on the platform. It's open source software and it's a non-profit organization.
But it has some flaws:
- one time donations don't work
- max. $100 / week / person
- others say you can't see who donated or how much, you only get all collected donations
What a bummer only 3 vegan creators wrote something here
Do you know more vegan creators?
If there would be much more I would create some kind of a "vegan creators catalog" with links to their websites/shops.
This is something what is worth to support!
@utopify_org Thank you very much for sharing! I will make sure to have a close look and to let you know should I find something else worth sharing.
@utopify_org I'm building @vortmaro, but I'm not taking donations at this stage. I likely will once I open beta testing up.
@carbsrule_en @vortmaro I recommend to put the hashtag vegan into your bio, so other vegans will see your posts.
On our instance, the admin created a special timeline where only content of vegans is shown (and more).
@carbsrule_en @vortmaro btw. the link to the vortmaro plugin for Firefox doesn't work on your website.
@utopify_org @vortmaro this is true; they removed it when I sent through the second update because it didn't tick all their boxes. It should be back up in a month or two.
@utopify_org : Here I am!
@ImaBMe What are you doing? Show us your products.
Leave some links...
@utopify_org I am and I try to promote sustainable futures via ethicalrevolution.co.uk (which is coming up for it’s ten year anniversary). I’ve recently stepped up my efforts on Peertube and Pixelfed in terms of content creation and will continue to do so. My SingleLink (open source LinkTree alternative) has links to my website and the socials: https://www.singlel.ink/u/ethrev
Well, you've seen my stuff already, but maybe it's interesting for other vegans/game devs. :)
I make pixel art tilesets. They are all licensed unter Creative Commons 0 and can be downloaded for free. If you want to pay me you can do so directly on Itch (I get 90%, Itch gets 10%) or donate on my Liberapay site (I get the whole 100%).
