@prismnpen When i #transitioned twenty years ago, the world generally seemed less aware of trans peeps & issues, so when hostility arose, i do feel it was based on fear, ergo, #transphobia. However, in the intervening two decades, & especially the last decade, general awareness has markedly risen, & initial advances in many countries sadly have been or are being now wound back, as #RWNJs & #ChristoFascists tragically gain political ascendency. I now no longer believe it is a fear-based response, but is predominantly based on hatred. Within the past two weeks i saw in the fediverse, for my first time, the term #transmisia used. I did not know what it meant, but when i researched it, & discovered its etymology is to reflect the more contemporary manifestation of hate not mere fear, it roundly resonated with me. As such, in all contexts now where i previously spoke of transphobia, i now instead use transmisia, as it seems a better fit for today's dire reality for trans peeps. This is so tragic & unfair.

@Daojoan I #transitioned, on the job, in the early Oughties, whilst working in Straya [where i live] for a large Merkan company. I was only their second-ever out trans employee, at that stage.

They were immensely supportive, from go to whoa, which is extra amazeballs when you consider that we were all making it up as we went along, wrt corporate policy.

They were not only accepting & supportive, but also generous in many ways, not the least being ample time off for my trips to Thailand for my various surgeries & recoveries at home after.

Given recent & contemporary Merka's descent into magamoron madness, i would have to suppose that were i only now needing to transition, the reaction prolly would be diametrically opposite.

I feel such despair & anxiety now for my Merkan trans cousins.
