Spain power cuts - fortunately we are somewhat prepared with solar electricity, cash supplies, 15000 litres of water storage, fuel in car & about a months worth of dehydrated meals . In case of a zombie apocalypse
or natural disaster we also have walkie talkies, LoRa radios & I have been developing off-grid networks (experimenting with #Meshtastic, #Meshcore & #Reticulum)
.
Bit of a wake up call though - prepare for these events no matter how far fetched they seem. They can and do happen.
Meshcore-cli console tools for #meshcore v0.7 is available via pipx ! with lots of improvements on the interactive mode.
Works great on my #postmarketos phones and perfectly integrated into #sxmo ! Should probably do some wiki pages for it ...
v1 is near ...

Got 500 meters on the LoRa, through 2 walls and a hill. I need to move the antenna higher and outside.
Cleaning up the wiring and checking antenna SWR with a NanoVNA.
Was curious if these cheap antennas were similar to their name brand look alikes. And no, no they are not comparable lol. Stick to the name brand I guess for this style of antennas, the cheaper ones are not worth it this time.
OK #homeassistant community, has anybody ever created a mailbox sensor? I mean the one that informed you, if somebody has put something into your (physical) mailbox like ads newspaper or letter? I think about a #reticulum or #meshcore radio connection as my box is too far away for my WiFi. Of course I do not seek for any cloud-solution.

@fishingdev @fidepus how does the #meshcore routing compare to #reticulum ?
Talking about Seeed and #meshcore solar nodes, here is mine.
It uses a simple 6W solar panel designed for cameras, a xiao-esp32-S3, a 820mAh bat. The antenna and the mcu both come from Seeed ;)
The battery was initially a 2000mAh and I had to use a smaller one because of the small enclosure ... the node is still up after 21 days !
I've been using a custom repeater firmware where the mcu spends most of its time in light sleep (without solar panel the chip can stay up 4 days)
@seeedstudio opened preorders for their upcoming #loramesh solar node.

This seems to be a good affordable kit for people wanting to expand their mesh without the need of power plugs ;)
It is advertised as a #meshtastic equipment and it will work great on this network.
It will also be quickly supported in #meshcore as the xiao-nrf52 core that it embeds is already supported.
Working on a meshcore testbed.
I want to have several radios on the roof so I can develop in production
meshcore-cli, command line interface for #meshcore is taking shape after a major refactoring of the associated python library.
It now features an IM prompt (Interactive Mode/Instant Message) made with prompt-toolkit and has a cleaner json output for better integration in shell scripts.
You can get it here : https://github.com/fdlamotte/meshcore-cli

Oh joy, another "lightweight" protocol to complicate your life with packet radios! Because what we really needed was yet another GitHub project with a name only a tech hipster would love—MeshCore.
But hey, at least you get to "automate any workflow" while drowning in #buzzwords.

MeshCore, a new lightweight, hybrid routing mesh protocol for packet radios
Are there any projects to run a single radio to serve as a repeater/router for both #meshtastic and #meshcore ? (Courtesy tag to #reticulum )
Cool to see healthy competition between projects and all but it's a shame to have to run two radios to support both projects.
Alternatively, meshtastic is a more mature project so it might be better for them to add a routing layer.
@lmorchard Sadly you will realize most of them are trash and nobody uses it in actual communication because messages are unreliable and gets lost over hops. For a few weeks our local community are flashing our devices with #meshcore and it has much better message delivery rate because of smart routing algorithm and we see future there instead of #meshtastic.
