The anniversary of my Dad's death from #covid cardiac arrest is coming up again in June. If anyone wants to support me & my family with our remembrance of my Dad & also help support us in long battle for justice from unmasked #SaanichPolice - please add me on your Signal - phoenixserenity.54

I'd like to compile a bunch of audio messages & any kind of artwork for this year's ceremony of beloved remembrance for my Dad. He died after getting infected by unmasked staff in local hospital. Unmasked cops, including the lead cop, Jason Whittaker - who is president of the SPD union abused us. I also want to compile something to let Saanich PD know - I am not fucking letting this go.

Please record:
Fuck you, Jason Whittaker & add whatever you want to rest of audio recording.

Please create Fuck You, Jason Whittaker or similar messages to #Saanich Police & tell them what you think of their antimasking egotistical loser of a 'leader' they chose to represent them.

@michaeljohnlo.bsky.social Two of my friends ran businesses there for over a decade. Both of them have repeatedly said the ongoing lack of social & transitional housing, combined with lack of access to mental health & addiction recovery supportive services has only increased the social problems downtown.
People need help & housing now - not to be put on long waitlists to access both, for months to years.

#GoodNews - Several of my local small farm friends will benefit from this new program👩‍🌾👨‍🌾

#CRD will sow the seeds of #FoodSecurity & #GrowingFood in the region as it embarks on a new #foodlands access service.

The goal is to enhance food security & address concerns over the rising cost of #farmland by facilitating affordable access to productive land for new & expanding #farmers.

Saanich News · CRD digs in to farming with new foodland serviceBy Christine van Reeuwyk

Just made my monthly phone call to shout at #SaanichPolice to remind them I will NEVER FORGET how their #policeUnion boss led team on night my Dad died & refused to put a mask on & refused to leave our home despite first arrival cops & paramedics determining it was a full medical cardiac emergency requiring ZERO COPS. I WILL NEVER STOP REMINDING #SAANICH PD HOW THEY COMPLETELY FUCKED UP & TRAUMATIZED US MORE ON NIGHT MY DAD DIED!!!

#StopStreetSweeps #HumanRights

Street sweeps of the homeless are just another form of taxpayers funded, state sanctioned, social murder. These inhumane actions have never worked to alleviate homelessness crisis, nor lowered crime rates, nor have they improved our community safety as a whole. People die from street sweeps. We have desperate needs for both more social & transitional supportive housing for folks living at & below poverty lines. We have desperate community needs for mental health & addictions recovery/support services to be funded better & access to services be fast-tracked. There's long waiting lists for folks seeking help & that's been an health care issue for decades - under 2 swinging door governments. There's still too much stigma & ignorant judgements towards our most marginalized citizens.

A society that chooses to judge, ignore, dehumanize & ostracize the most marginalized folks within it, is a sick society. It really does take a village of diverse kind citizens to help heal it. You can always make a small ripple of difference to help out in your own local area 🙏

*My social justice activist friend, Crystal, was interviewed for this article.*

As the City of Victoria conducts what outreach workers say are deadly sweeps of Pandora Avenue, those who facilitate unhoused individuals into addiction rehabilitation centres say there’s not enough spaces to meet the needs of those who are left on the capital city’s streets.

“What I’m faced with is, where am I sending them?” said Theresa Reeve, executive director of the relatively new non-profit Westcoast Recovery Outreach.

Reeve says private treatment centres only take a select number of government-funded clients, leaving empty beds open for higher paying private clients.

“I could fill up their treatment centre if they would allow me,” said Reeve. “But they only let a few government-funded beds. We need to increase those government funded beds. These people deserve a chance just like everybody else.”

“People having to wait anywhere from two weeks to three months waiting to get into a detox bed is not acceptable. We need a better system now. We just had an election about. Where are all the beds they promised they were going to build?”

The Minister of Health told CHEK News in a statement that her government is adding new services without specifics.

CHEK · Not enough housing or rehab beds for Victoria’s most broken, says outreach workerBy Kori Sidaway

Just how small is 33 square metres? It’s about 350 square feet, or the size of a studio apartment in The Janion, specially built for short-term rental use in #VictoriaBC.

But a staff report to the City of Victoria is recommending that council consider allowing developers to build micro-units in new projects with minimum standards in place.

It’s an effort to create more units in a tight housing market, says Mayor Marianne Alto.

Alto says the report will come before council at its next meeting and, if approved, would have to be incorporated into the city’s official community plan.

Find the report here.

We split up & walked almost every single block in downtown #VictoriaBC & found many people trying to hunker down in tiny doorways & whatever spots they could find. We also found several people who froze to death on our street safety/assistance walks. I had to call authorities to pick up the dead & frozen bodies. This was never work I expected to do. It is work we did because our governments have #dehumanized #homeless citizens.

I'm physically disabled & limped my way through. There's no excuses for abled bodied except they do not care enough to get off their asses to actively help out too.

#Accessibility committees without inclusive diversity of disabled citizens is not a genuine accessibility committee but an ableist one, created by folks who have never lived with any form of disabilities & therefore have no real idea of what us disabled folks need/seek/want changes on. Too many municipal, provincial & federal so called accessibility committees do not have diversity inclusion of #DisabledRepresentatives.

That has to change.

BC Cons: Environmental & Indigenous rights activists are domestic terrorists. We must use militarized police forces on them & protect our corporate lobbyists' interests.

BC NDP: Environmental & Indigenous rights activists are domestic terrorists. We must use militarized police forces on them & protect our corporate lobbyists' interests.

BC Greens: Environmental & Indigenous rights activists are trying to do what governments promised & failed to do. We must not put corporate lobbyists interests above our environmental & citizens' best interests.

Mom & my big Auntie just cast their votes over the phone. I voted earlier in week, via phone too.

We need #BCForestryReform no matter who wins to stop ongoing #deforestation of #BritishColumbia. This is a decades long battle with 2 swinging door BC governments.

Even if you had $100 billion - you can't buy or give funds to First Nations to buy cutblocks & protect them instead of logging them. The way our shady government has set things up - if you purchase cutblock, you're legally required to log it or else you lose your purchase. That needs to be changed. It's a screwed up clause created by former BC Liberals & was kept on books by BC NDP. Only the BC Greens have ever fought to get this amended as part of necessary, overdue BC #ForestryReform.
