Ritual? I’ve become a coffee connoisseur (at least in my eyes) over the last 5 months since I began using a stovetop percolator. #TipOfDay for keeping your stainless steel pot and parts clean, no coffee oil stains.

Let’s say this photo is a still life study. Forgot to finish cleaning the percolator and parts last night after letting it soak with the pot full of water, parts inside, with 1 tablespoon of baking soda.

In the morning I scrub all with a mix of my 3 favorite dishwashing accessories: fine nail brush for delicate areas, sturdy brush with medium-soft bristles and a mesh net nylon cloth cut in smaller pieces. It’s all still super clean and shiny 5 months out from daily use brewing coffee from fresh ground beans.

A couple more tips in comments. And please do add your tips of any sort here. Nice to initiate this hashtag in top of post. I had it
going over a year in my old instance. And these #Coffee #Cleaning #Shiny.

@RickiTarr We have ham about 4-5 times a year, always cooked/heated in the large slow cooker. Every time I am looking for that can of crushed pineapple I use on top with brown sugar and other added. I dislike opening and not using it, storing open can in fridge and then tossing out a month later. Now I freeze it in 1 cup portions and I get 3 roasts made from 1 can.

Another #TipOfDay is freezing spaghetti sauce in 1 or 2 cups portions in heavy freezer bags, flat. I can file these easily in freezer.

The last of the ham, on the last day. As far as this photo shows and I’ve got to spend about 20 more minutes later today to chop and dice 2 more bags of ham scraps for the freezer. Buddy Jax been very happy to have tiny ham scraps added to his dry food. But time to freeze small bits to space out these luxuries for him. Dice and frozen going to be for omelettes in a few weeks. #TipOfDay #Ham #Meat

Before and after photos for #TipOfDay. Here’s a brand name product it’s worth getting for several common uses. Bar keeper’s Friend (BKF). First use for me is cleaning burnt food marks in a pot. But every 3 months I use it to restore 50-year old stoneware to white when daily use causes faint gray scratch marks. I got an app to make photos side by side. 3 photos: 1st one to see both photos together. 2nd to show before photo so you can enlarge. 3rd photo to see and enlarge for after.

Here’s the finished eggnog, so at least you have an idea what quantity this recipe makes. I think I’m “supposed” to show a glorious mug of eggnog now, but “everyone” says wait 24 hours. We each had a spoonful and were pleased! Can’t wait to later today when 1/2 goes in the “virgin” bottle and the other I’ll had rum, bourbon, whiskey and/or brandy. Just to try it for the record 😉#TipOfDay
#Eggnog
Recipe comes when we do try it for reals.

How about guessing what I’m making today? Also, a #TipOfDay that’s more like a hunh moment. The first photo maybe is ambiguous as to the answer but there are clues in in it. The 2nd photo makes the cooking project more clear. Here’s my hunh moment: 12 egg whites completely fill a 2 cups bowl. The 12 yolks not so much. I had to find out in order to divide the eggs and save in the bowls.

I probably should point out that my researching online is important because there are so many “household tips” from well-meaning people. I’m looking also at the pure chemical first to see environmental information and safety for me to use. If a “recipe” for a cleaner calls for several ingredients I check all of them. Citric acid is often used in combination but that may not be necessary. I’m going for the occasional uses not everyday homemade detergents or soaps. #TipOfDay #CitricAcid

She continues with learning the joys of environmentally safe chemicals for cleaning, powerful and soo cheap. Citric acid! #TipOfDay 3 tablespoons in the dishwasher dispenser and run a regular wash to clean it. Realized it hadn’t been cleaned in 2 years since getting it. Astonishing to open the door this morning to see it has brilliant shine and gleam. #CitricAcid Prolly use it once a month in the electric kettle and to attack limescale rings in the toilets.

Since the last few days I’ve been sharing posts that smack of the P word, here’s a break with my grandmother-y #TipOfDay: 1st photo shows a tip! 2nd photo is NOT a tip, but rather an oops (what was I thinking!🤔). Was making cinnamon rolls and needed to clean up the pastry mats. Knew I wanted to quickly dry them but no space to lay mats out. Aha! Dishwasher racks at the ready. Woot! On the 2nd photo who can spot my mistake?

Ta-da! Finally done, comment 6. Thread of 7 parts. Oven 98% clean and no longer smokes or smells. FYI the lemon oil in the final rinse of vinegar water spray was worth it. Whole task 2 1/2 hours. Final tip—don’t freakin’ wait 2 weeks to clean the oven of a big cheese spill and burnt cheese. Yikes. To see the saga here you have to click each post in a row. Now is a good time for any questions, suggestions or raspberries. Turkey is now in the oven. Whew!

Holy Guacamole I’m on method tips comment 5. Son took pity and wiped out most of residue and now I’ve sprayed interior with vinegar water mostly water and 10 drops concentrated lemon oil (essential oil). He said “Sure hope turkey doesn’t smell like vinegar”. Remember to go to each post in a row by clicking each successive reply I make. The end is in sight. Only 1/2 hour late from putting turkey in to roast.

Just in case my recent obsession with #SodiumPercarbonate has left you under the impression I am a great housekeeper and do a sterling job of handling all the cleaning tasks here, I’m disabusing you of that notion right now with my present task of trying to clean off a couple weeks of burnt-on and melted cheese in the oven. Good thing I remembered before heating the oven to roast turkey. #TipOfDay. You can only imagine the smoke and smell when oven is hot. Following comments for method.

This one has a title: Oh Shit! And a #TipOfDay for caregivers especially @caregivers Soooo, if you were born back when people only had cloth diapers, maybe you learned this. But likely if younger you didn't learn how to dunk clothes, pads, etc. in a toilet and let sit in the toilet a while. Hold soiled items partly out, flush again and let them sit again. Maybe repeat a few more times. Use a brush to maybe scrape a bit. Later use a pail soak again with water & stain cleaner. 1/2
