"South Dakota Attorney General Marty Jackley announced Monday he supports a Louisiana law that’s similar to a proposed South Dakota bill to require the display and curricular inclusion of the Ten Commandments in schools.

"Jackley, and 17 other attorneys general, signed an amicus brief showing support for the law requiring all K-12 schools and state universities display the Ten Commandments in classrooms. A federal district court has blocked the law from taking effect after the Louisiana Legislature and governor signed the law. The attorneys general filed their brief in late December.

"Jackley’s spokesman Tony Mangan said while Jackley supports the concept of the Ten Commandments display in public schools for the releases mentioned in the release, he hasn’t yet reviewed South Dakota's version of the bill.

"This isn’t the first time religion has attempted to touch the schools through politics in South Dakota. In 2019, Gov. #KristiNoem successfully lobbied for the national motto, 'In God We Trust,' to be displayed in all public schools, sparking a national debate."

A federal judge held that Loisiania's law mandating Ten Commandment posters in every public school classroom violated the Establishment Clause for two reasons.

First, Supreme Ct had held in Graham v. Stone (1980) that school 10C laws were unconstitutional, and this law is analogous

(Of course, Louisiana hopes SCOTUS will overrule Stone)

I'm so thankful that our district, #OklahomaCityPublicSchools, provides free breakfast and free lunch to every enrolled student pre-K through 12th grade. This even continued during covid-related school closures. Education-wise, Oklahoma is 2nd-worst in the nation (dropped from 47th since fascist #RyanWalters entered the scene), but at least they're getting *this* right.

All #Oklahoma schools are required to incorporate the Bible and the #TenCommandments in their curriculums, effective immediately, the state’s chief #education officer announced.

The Superintendent of Public Instruction said the Bible is “one of the most foundational documents used for the Constitution and the birth of our country.

Every classroom in the state from grades 5 through 12 must have a #Bible and all teachers must teach from the Bible in the classroom. #school

Louisiana just became the first state in the country to require the Ten Commandments to be displayed in public schools and state-funded universities. The American Civil Liberties Union says they plan to sue on the grounds that the law violates First Amendment. Louisiana is the first state to require the Ten Commandments to be displayed in schools since the Supreme Court struck down a similar Kentucky law in 1980. Supporters of the new law say a 2022 Supreme Court ruling in favor of a school football coach’s right to pray on the field after games bolsters their legal case. Read more from UPI.

He was an aide to [#rapist] #RoyMoore on the state Supreme Court in 2000 until Moore was dismissed in 2003 for ignoring a #federal #CourtOrder to remove a #TenCommandments monument he had installed in the #judicial bldg.
After Parker was elected to #Alabama’s high court…, he went to DC to take the oath of office. #SCOTUS Justice #ClarenceThomas, one of his role models, presided.
