I’ve finally developed a BBC World Service habit. It is *so* much better than the #r4today millstone I was still occasionally dragging.
I had the misfortune to listen to #r4today this morning.
All the programme seemed to do was big up the worst people in the world at the moment: #Muskrat, #FeloniousTrump and #VladTheInvader. :(
Reflecting that the cure to avoid my disgruntled start this morning is to either not turn the radio on at all (as in, get lost #r4today for ever)
or
for a breakfast serving of current affairs, change channel to the BBC World Service

…behind this, of course, is the sound of social democracy failing. BP is under pressure to provide “better returns”, and ‘renewables’ are just not profitable enough (see Brett Christophers’ analysis).
The interviewee blamed hedge funds in a hand wavy way, but I wouldn’t be surprised if that goes deeper, to pension funds, which need a return of 6%+ to remain viable, in an economy struggling to realise 1% growth.
But none of this is ever discussed, even in passing, on #r4today
