@AnthoDerv I use:
- jisho.org if on computer and can write
- 10ten firefox extension if reading on the screen
- 白檜辞書 (Shirabe Jisho) on iOS
- 大辞林 for iOS
- ChatGTP if the content is long, isn't confidential and I only wanna get the gist of it before diving deep
- Online searches mostly including words like 辞書、意味、違い、由来、語源学 depending on my goal

Also I had an idea:
何々 は is like when you initialise a variable in coding!!
Or you update a parameter before starting an experiment.
It signals a phase transition or state change!
It tells the other people the environmental conditions of the conversation!

How is emphasis represented in Japanese, as in emphasis of a word in a sentence?

In languages written with the Latin alphabet it’s mostly via italics (or bolding) - or in handwriting we might underline. I can’t recall seeing anything equivalent to underlining or bold script in Japanese books.

Italics I don’t think would even be possible.

I don’t get the impression emphasis is applied via word order.

Is it just via particles?
