The tool wall is finished! IKEA BESTÅ, SKÅDIS, UPPDATERA, and a whole lot of 3D modeling and printing.

I bought the furniture last November. I built the furniture in December. I spent the next six months modeling the custom hangers, and today I published all the 3D printed parts to Printables. Done done. Hooray!

And here are some Gridfinity baseplates and driver bit bins for the tool wall. It's hard to tell from the photos, but the baseplates are tilted forward. These bits are from three sets, plus some more I got as singletons. They include a lot I won't use often (ever), but I've also got the ones I need.

These baseplates use the three piece assembly mechanism that I showed upthread in 🧵 10 and 🧵 11.

@kbob I really have to check this gridfinity properly. I was planning to laser cut variable geometry organisers for my electronics (drawers of various heights with separators that I can put on a grid to make columns of various width that I split into bins,) but I might as well make them gridfinity compatible as well, just in case. #gridfinity #DIY

It seems #gridfinity has made it into my subconscious and dreams. In one instance there was a giant grid (42cm?) filling the inside of a train carriage (and me getting lost on a strange version of Thameslink). The other had a more normal sized grid but I can't remember the plot of that dream.

Looking to upgrade my small parts trays I use for #RCCars, model building, #3dPrinting, repairing devices, etc.

Browsing the usual model websites doesn’t show anything compelling that is #Gridfinity based and a handy parts tray. They all seem cobbled together with little thought or proper construction. Some even slapped some gridfinity bottoms on an existing model that doesn’t really fit the 42mm universe.

What Gridfinity parts trays are you using, and what do like about them in particular?

Next project I've been doing quietly in the background... Custom designing Gridfinity storage and such for the PaintPal system.

Still a lot of organizing to go, but finally have enough shelving to hold things in a handy place. Where the minis temporarily are is to hold paints I am using while painting instead of all over the desk.

I may print the back extensions so I can go 4x5 deep for paint brushes organizers and such.
