Thousands March in #London to Demand End of #FossilFuels and #GazaGenocide

'We won't stop until political leaders #divest from #war and destruction—and invest in a just, #ecological, and equitable transition,' said one campaigner.

"Thousands of #ClimateJustice advocates took to the streets of London on Saturday to demand the U.K. government 'end its reliance on fossil fuels, commit to paying #ClimateReparations, and end its complicity in the #genocide in #Gaza.'

"Organizers said more than 60 groups—including #ExtinctionRebellion, Friends of the Earth [#FOE], #Greenpeace, #AmnestyInternational U.K., #PalestineSolidarity Campaign, #WarOnWant, and #JustStopOil — took part in the March for Global Climate Justice. The demonstration took place amid yet another shambolic United Nations #ClimateChange Conference and as #Israeli forces continue a war on Gaza that U.N. experts this week called 'consistent with the characteristics of genocide.'

"More than two dozen associated #protests were held in cities and towns across #Britain and #Ireland, including #Dublin, #Edinburgh, #Manchester, and #Sheffield. Over 150 actions around the world are planned for what organizers are calling a #GlobalDayOfAction for Climate Justice on Saturday.

"'Thousands of us united today in a historic mobilization on the streets of London, across #GreatBritain, and worldwide to demand an end to the era of fossil fuels and an end to the genocide in Gaza,' Climate Justice Coalition national coordinator Angus O'Brien said in a statement."

#Shell wins landmark #climate case against green groups in Dutch appeal

Anna Holligan, November 12, 2024

"Part of the historic legal case hinged on the interpretation of an 'unwritten duty of care' that exists under Dutch law, which requires companies to prevent hazardous negligence.

"#FriendsOfTheEarth Netherlands argued that there was an international consensus that #HumanRights offered protection against dangerous #Climate Change and that companies had to respect human rights.

"Shell's successful appeal could have far-reaching implications for corporate climate responsibility.

"A number of #environmental groups around the world are now trying to force companies and governments to comply with the accords through the courts."

Lynda Carter’s Sister Is Running in a Key Arizona Race -- Wonder Woman Is Sounding the Alarm.

#Pamela #Carter, a right-wing #abortion #foe, claims to have her family’s “full support” for her candidacy.
💥Not exactly.

Arizona’s fourth legislative district, located in the suburban heart of Maricopa County, might be the ultimate bellwetherin the ultimate bellwether state.

And this fall, the stakes are impossibly high, not just at the presidential level
—where polls show Donald Trump and Kamala Harris in a dead heat
—but all the way down the ballot.

👉Republicans control both chambers of the legislature by just one vote.
In Arizona, where each legislative district elects two representatives, ⭐️control of the state house could come down to Democrats’ efforts to flip one seat and hold another in this district that includes parts of Phoenix and Scottsdale.

In their quest to hold onto the legislature, Republicans have turned to a member of a #famous Arizona #family
—Pamela Carter, 🔸older sister of the original #Wonder #Woman, Lynda Carter.

On the campaign trail, the candidate Carter has talked up her work as a successful entrepreneur and a record of academic accomplishment, and boasts of having “my family’s full support” for her state house run.

But a review of her record and past statements tells a much different story:
In contrast to the fourth district’s moderate profile, Carter is a fervently #anti-#abortion minister who has been
♦️ “blessed with end-time revelation”
and who has made confusing claims about her past.
🔥And one notable member of her family is not on board
—her famous sister, an advocate for reproductive rights

The second movie was #Foe with Saiorse Ronan. Frankly, I kept waiting for something to happen. At the 59 minute mark, when nothing had happened to get me emotionally invested with the characters, I paused and went looking for a synopsis.

The amount of story they had, they could've wrapped that up in 30 minutes. No reason to stretch it nearly 2 hours. *yawn*

I haven't seen #StarshipTroopers since before it earned cult status, so I'ma try that next. 🤞

Number 5 was the film #Foe with the brilliant Saoirse Ronan and Paul Mescal.

This was promoted as a #SciFi but in reality it’s a film about the humanity of relationships set in a dystopian future.

It’s v slow and tedious and even boring in places. It was saved by the performances of Ronan and Mescal. The cinematography is gorgeous.

But I was v disappointed.
