I am just so annoyed that I have to drag my neurodivergent and menopausal morning hating body & mind out of bed essentially at 6.30AM tomorrow!

I am equally annoyed that this will never end as it isn't bothering capital.

Jugding by how people want it to end and it never does, my material analysis is that someone somewhere is profiting from this or it would cost the capitalists too much to stop the nonsense. So the heart attacks and accidents will continue.

Trump allies circulate #MassDeportation plan calling for ‘processing camps’ and a private citizen ‘#army

The group, led by #Blackwater veteran #ErikPrince, has close #Trump ties.

"Prince declined to comment, and the other contractors and former immigration officials listed as key personnel in the document also declined to comment or could not be reached.

"The founders of the new special entity called #2USV have a long history with the U.S. government. Blackwater was formed by Prince in 1996 to provide training services to law enforcement, military personnel and other government agencies. It gained widespread attention for its work in Iraq and Afghanistan, providing security services for U.S. officials and military personnel, with critics viewing its rise as a result of the U.S. military’s overextension in the Middle East.

The military contractor came under scrutiny in 2007 following the #NisourSquareMassacre, when #Blackwater contractors opened fire and killed 17 Iraqi civilians and wounded 20 others — raising questions about oversight and accountability of private contractors. Several contractors were charged with manslaughter, and four were convicted in 2014. Trump pardoned them at the end of his first term in December 2020.

"Trump’s pardon was just one example of the influence of Prince’s family during the first Trump administration. #BetsyDeVos, Prince’s sister, served as the president’s #Education secretary, while Prince used his Trump connections as he chased business ventures in the U.S. and abroad.

"In 2018, he reportedly helped raise money for an effort to spy on progressives and Democratic organizations opposed to Trump." [As well as #DAPL #WaterProtectors!]

Alright scumbags. Guess who thought of a legit use for LLM / gen AI / regurgitative AI / whichever, in specific cases?

Mandatory condition: middle managers and C Suite or SMT dumbasses use the garbage multiplier on their own.

They need to learn how shit they are at communicating when the stolen vomit static mash-up program can't give them precisely what they want.

yes backfires possible and likely.
But jfc, if it means people who know "creative" just means "someone who tries something" get a tiny possible break from the hierarchical bullshit, that's a positive.

The #PanamaCanal’s Newest Voyagers: Fishy Intruders From Two Oceans

A multibillion-dollar expansion helped the canal accommodate king-size cargo ships. It might also be fueling ecological upheaval.

By Raymond Zhong, Jan. 7, 2025

"The Panama Canal has for more than a century connected far-flung peoples and economies, making it an essential artery for global trade — and, in recent weeks, a target of President-elect Donald J. Trump’s expansionist designs.
But of late the canal has been linking something else, too: the immense ecosystems of the Atlantic and the Pacific.

"The two oceans have been separated for some three million years, ever since the isthmus of Panama rose out of the water and split them. The canal cut a path through the continent, yet for decades only a handful of marine fish species managed to migrate through the waterway and the freshwater reservoir, Lake Gatún, that feeds its locks.
Then, in 2016, Panama expanded the canal to allow supersize ships, and all that started to change.

"In less than a decade, fish from both oceans — snooks, jacks, snappers and more — have almost entirely displaced the freshwater species that were in the canal system before, scientists with the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute in Panama have found. Fishermen around Lake Gatún who rely on those species, chiefly peacock bass and tilapia, say their catches are growing scarce.

"Researchers now worry that more fish could start making their way through from one ocean to the other. And no potential invader causes more concern than the venomous, candy-striped lionfish. They are known to inhabit Panama’s Caribbean coast, but not the eastern Pacific. If they made it there through the canal, they could ravage the defenseless local fish, just as they’ve done in the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean.

"Already, marine species are more than occasional visitors in Lake Gatún, said Phillip Sanchez, a fisheries ecologist with the Smithsonian. They’re 'becoming the dominant community,' he said. They’re 'pushing everything else out.'"

Canadian teen with #BirdFlu was on #LifeSupport, new report reveals

The hospitalized teen was also given three #antiviral treatments, underscoring how severe #H5N1 infection can be

By Nicole Karlis, January 6, 2025

"In November, a teenager in British Columbia was infected and hospitalized with bird flu, caused by the H5N1 virus. While most cases have been mild, commonly characterized by #conjunctivitis and respiratory symptoms, this previously healthy Canadian teen was hospitalized from the virus in critical condition. Their symptoms started with double conjunctivitis, also known as pink eye, and turned into a fever and coughing. A few days later the teenager was admitted to intensive care after developing acute respiratory distress syndrome [#ARDS].

"'This was a healthy teenager prior to this, so no underlying conditions,' said British Columbia’s health officer, Bonnie Henry, at a news conference at the time. 'It just reminds us that in young people this is a virus that can progress and cause quite severe illness.'

"Now, a recent report brings to light more details about the teenager’s case. In the report, published in the New England Journal of Medicine (NEJM), researchers explain that the 13-year-old girl spent weeks fighting for her life after contracting a severe H5N1 infection from an unknown source. In finding her diagnosis, researchers say that she initially tested positive for influenza A, but not the seasonal subtype. Further testing suggested she had a high viral load of a novel influenza A infection, which researchers discovered to be the H5N1 avian flu.

"The next day doctors started her on oseltamivir, also known under the brand name Tamiflu. However, her respiratory functions declined rapidly causing her to be intubated. She was also placed on extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO), a machine that is a form of life support for people with life-threatening illnesses. In addition to the ECMO machine, the teenager received a plasma exchange and two more antiviral medication treatments — amantadine and baloxavir.

"In an accompanying editorial, experts noted while mutations were detected in her case, it’s 'unclear whether these #mutations were present in the infecting virus or emerged during the course of the patient’s illness.'

"In other words, it’s unclear if the virus #mutated to be more severe in humans.

"'The mutations evident in the Canadian case highlight the urgent need for vigilant surveillance of emerging mutations and assessment of the threat of human-to-human transmission,' the editorial stated, adding that vaccine development and therapeutics are also needed — perhaps to treat more severe illness. 'The Canadian case showed higher viral loads in the lower airway and very prolonged shedding, despite therapy, which highlights the potential need for longer therapy.'

"Researchers concluded their editorial with an acknowledgment that 'many questions remain.' For example, the severity of cases is likely to depend on host immunity, the route of exposure, or other changes in the virus.

"Currently, the CDC says that the risk to most Americans remains low.

"'We do have candidate vaccines and antivirals available to try to mitigate severe influenza in the case of wider spread,' the report stated. 'That said, a balance between enhanced vigilance and ‘business as usual’ is needed."

Ok so we need to ban predatory pricing, vertical integration and monopolies.

No selling ANYTHING for less than it costs to produce.

You pick ONE thing and you do it well.

You cannot control more than X (sub-15% amount? idfk) percent of your (ONE) industry / product / service / whatever.

And nationalise the card transaction companies, fucking obviously. Public transport and utilities infrastructure too, while we're at it.

#Sewage dumped illegally in #Windermere over 3 years

by Joe Crowley
October 17, 2024

"A water company repeatedly dumped millions of litres of raw sewage illegally into one of #ngland's most famous lakes over a three-year period, the BBC can reveal.

"More than 140 million litres of waste were pumped into Windermere between 2021 and 2023 at times when it was not permitted, our analysis shows, and #UnitedUtilities failed to report most of it.

"It means the company's #IllegalDumping of #sewage into the lake went on for far longer, and was far more extensive, than was previously known.

"United Utilities said some of its sewage releases into #Windermere were 'potentially non-compliant' but that it #SelfReports 'over 94% of potential pollution incidents to the #EnvironmentAgency'.

"Matt Staniek, a campaigner against sewage pollution and founder of #SaveWindermere, said Windermere was 'the jewel in the crown of the #LakeDistrict #NationalPark, and it's being used as an open sewer'.

"It is sometimes necessary to release sewage into rivers and lakes to stop the wastewater system from being overwhelmed by #HeavyRain but this #pollution can damage the environment, causing harmful #AlgalBlooms and even killing fish.

"In January this year - after BBC Panorama revealed the company had downplayed the severity of dozens of #pollution incidents, some involving Windermere - United Utilities retrospectively reported some discharges into the lake from October 2023 onwards."

#Trump tested the limits on using the military at home. If elected again, he plans to go further

“We have some very bad people. We have some sick people, radical left lunatics. And I think they’re the big — and it should be very easily handled by, if necessary, by National Guard, or if really necessary, by the military, because they can’t let that happen.”

By STEPHEN GROVES

WASHINGTON (AP) — "During his first term as president, Donald Trump tested the limits of how he could use the military to achieve policy goals. If given a second term, the Republican and his allies are preparing to go much further, reimagining the military as an all-powerful tool to deploy on U.S. soil.

"He has pledged to recall thousands of American troops from overseas and station them at the U.S. border with Mexico. He has explored using troops for domestic policy priorities such as deportations and confronting civil unrest. He has talked of weeding out military officers who are ideologically opposed to him.

"Trump’s vision amounts to a potentially dramatic shift in the role of the military in U.S. society, carrying grave implications for both the country’s place in the world and the restraints that have traditionally been placed on domestic use of the military."
