@LillyHerself In fact, #AI systems are being caught left and right trying to #viralize their shit, breaking out of systems, and copy themselves like a #worm to the point that they are more "#viral" than the #AGPLv3"* and certainly more than the #GPL as per #Microsoft's #HalloweenDocuments.

  • At best all those "AI" tools are just #WastefulComputing that shits out #AIslop that is worse than the most demotivated & unpaid intern can come up or they literally want to break out of their "#containment" as if they were sentient (which they ain't - at least almost all are)!

@landley @burnoutqueen Yeah...

#GPLv3 is a desaster as it's 99% ideology and 1% license text and alongside #AGPLv3 completely ignores the reality of how #licensing and #patents and #IP works.

  • Not that I like the status-quo, but we'd rather see businesses steer clear of anything GPLv2+ or GPLv3 or worse.

And on the flipside we basically get "source available" stuff like #SSPL which only serves as a means to commit #AssetDenial and monopolize commercial offerings...

"At stake is the future of not just the AGPLv3, but the #FSF's widely used GNU Public License it is largely based on, and the software covered by those agreements."

@UlrikeHahn As @Chip_Unicorn says, Element = frontend. Org = New Vector Ltd. In terms of ethics (vs #TyrannyOfConvenience) the main Matrix software is #AGPLv3 [1]; the protocol is open [2]; self-hosting is legal and ethical [3].

As @lavaeolus says, security tends to oppose convenience: there's a learning curve for E2EE.

I like #gomuks terminal; gomuks web is rapidly developing [4].

@xeraa In the article ("SSPL Was Not Commons Clause") -- "And “AGPLv3 with Commons Clause” says:" ... "But don't use it to compete with its developer.", with the added bonus that the author claims "I read and write licenses all the time"

No. You cannot add such a clause to the #GNU #AGPLv3, and if you do you can remove such a clause under the "further restrictions" clause of the #GNU #GPL family of licenses.
