Whenever I talk to people around me (and also with my partner and especially our kid) I try my best to repeat what they said using words that de-normalize carnism.
E.g.: everytime someone tells me that this soy milk tastes "just like real milk", I respond with, "isn't it so cool that it's almost like cow's milk!".
I do the same thing whenever a reference to animal products as "real" or "normal" comes up - hell, I sometimes still think of cow's milk as "normal" cause I got brought up that way.
I do that because how we speak about things shapes our thoughts. Of course I don't want to police how people talk, but shape their thoughts on what they say by making them ask questions like "why do you keep repeating what I'm saying the with a slight alteration?"
I do that because it matters in the work for more justice for all animals, and it can be done everywhere.
Go to protests, liberate our friends, and also make sure to call out language that normalizes violence.
