Hackers guessed a password, destroyed a 158 year old British company, and put 700 people out of work.
I don’t care how old the hackers are, when caught, we should make an example of them. The current sentencing guidelines will undoubtedly be way too lenient.

@Npars01 and even then to me this looks more like a "bad" #PR stunt to me.

It's the digital equivalent of kids shooting paintballs at a parked cop car in a monsoon rain and that got only noticed retroactively...

  • I just think it's wasteful to #DDoS @briankrebs 's website because it's only a #blog, he doesn't pay any #ransom, is extremely well protected and outage of it doesn't generate the same public or financial pressure compared to businesses and governmental institutions.

Like even if they had succeeded, what would've been the outcome? Maybe line that reads: "Congrats Kiddo, you just wasted thousands if not millions of dollars worth in Monero just to create an outage of a tiny blog. Go give yourself a star in your exercise book!"…

PowerSchool, the cloud platform provider providing services to school boards across Canada & the US has confirmed that even though a ransom has been paid to the cybercriminals holding the data ransom & received assurances that the data was destroyed, the criminals have returned demanding for more money as they have not actually destroyed the data.

This unfortunately highlights the biggest risk when it comes to paying ransom for data destruction, threat actors can always come back demanding for more once they realize exactly how valuable the data is.

Toronto StarStudent data obtained in a cyberattack on GTA school boards was supposed to be destroyed. It wasn’tTDSB tells parents that PowerSchool “confirmed that they have paid a ransom in an attempt to secure deletion” but now there’s a new ransom demand.
