"Hurt" is a song by American #industrialRock band #NineInchNails from its 1994 studio album #TheDownwardSpiral—where it is the closing song on the album—written by #TrentReznor. It was subsequently released on April 17, 1995, as a #promotionalSingle from the album, wherein it was issued straight to radio. The song received a #GrammyAward nomination for #BestRockSong in 1996. In 2020, #Kerrang and #Billboard ranked the song number two and number three, respectively.

Fun moments with #DAngelo’s #Voodoo:
•The catalyst for trumpet legend Roy Hardgrove’s career. His tone on this album remains one of the most chased sounds in music.
•Pino Palladino recorded Voodoo while SIMULTANEOUSLY recording #NIN #TheDownwardSpiral AT THE SAME TIME IN THE SAME STUDIO. INSANE RANGE.
•Questlove talks about changing his style to fit this album, and you can hear it.
•TeenEricka spent 7 months & $50 to get this poster. As of 2024, it’s the only one left and rare, due to the date.

Heresy by #NineInchNails

"He sewed his eyes shut because he is afraid to see
He tries to tell me what I put inside of me
He's got the answers to ease my curiosity
He dreamed a god up and called it Christianity
Your god is dead and no one cares
If there is a hell I will see you there..."

"It serves as a testament to doing what entertains you with no borders." How Trent Reznor created a masterpiece with Nine Inch Nails' timeless The Downward Spiral - and influenced everyone from Korn to Johnny Cash in the process | Louder

I listened to my Pretty Hate Machine cassette so much the text wore off and it was my first CD purchase. It holds a special place in my heart.
That said, The Downward Spiral was far a more ambitious concept album that tells its story beautifully, using music to drag you through the gutter and the back alleys with the protagonist.

They mention Korn in the article and I remember picking up a free Korn demo cassette at Cat's Music in Memphis. In a little cheap paper sleeve. Side A was "Blind". Can't remember B side.

Today of course marks the 30th anniversary of nine inch nails' legendary record The Downward Spiral. This masterpiece of an album was released March 8, 1994, and was a pretty intense thing for 14 year old me to hear.

This photo is from Instagram - Trent just posted it, saying what 28 year old him had to say still excites him but breaks his heart. It's a dark album, man. All the pigs are still lined up.

Here it is, in all its glory: youtube.com/playlist?list=PLL1
