The view shows five of the stones, with two of the taller stones on the left. A row of small trees is just beyond the circle with a small fence on the other side. In the distance can be seen rolling hills and fields with a few small farms and cottages.

A vintage photographic postcard of the Standing Stones of Stenness on Mainland, Orkney, a 32m diameter prehistoric circle henge next to the Ness of Brodgar on Mainland in the Orkney Isles. The four remaining stones, up to 6m tall, of the remnants of an estimated 12 which originally comprised what may be the oldest circle henge in the British Isles and is estimated to be about 5400 years old.

Three of the eight white quartzite stones of Duloe Stone Circle in Cornwall. The grass is short and the neasrest stone has an arc of pale sandy-coloured bare earth surrounding part of it, in opposite imitation of the arc of the three stones shown. A smaller area of similar wear can be seen on the same side of neighbouring stone. The sky is steely grey and the trees and hedges can be seen in the near distance. A telegraph pole stands in the background to the left on the edge of the field.

The eight white quartzite stones of Duloe Stone Circle in Cornwall, the largest of which, at the centre of the photo, is about 2.65 m or 8.7 ft high. The photo was taken in late summer and all of the plants in the foreground have gone to seed. The sky is steely grey and the trees and hedges can be seen leading off into the distance.

A vintage photographic postcard showing the Boscawen-ûn Stone Circle in St Buryan, West Penwith. The photo is taken before the hedge, which now surrounds the monument, was built. The hedge was first mentioned by Richard Edmonds in 1850, and some time around 1862 the owner of the land, Elizabeth Carne, had it removed and a new hedge was built surrounding the stones. It's possible that the photo was taken around 1862, before the second hedge was built, but it's equally possible that it pre-dates the first hedge and would therefore have been taken at some point before 1850.

The 3.1m or just over 10ft tall menhir at Merrivale near Princetown on Dartmoor, with a slight lean. A stone circle lies just over 40m to the north and is between about 18 and 20.5m diameter. The grass on the moor is short and sheep-clipped with the tors in the distance below a grey cloudy sky.

HISTORY -
About six miles south of Bristol, and immediately east of the village of Stanton Drew, is a group of stone circles which is almost as important in Wessex as Stonehenge and Avebury. There are three stone circles (two of which have stone avenues extending eastwards from them), a ‘“cove,” and a single recumbent stone known as Hautville’s Quoit. A line drawn south-westwards through the centres of the North-eastern Circle and Great Circle will pass through the “Cove,” and these three monuments were therefore probably all constructed at the same period. A line drawn through the centres of the South-western and Great Circles will, if projected north-east- wards, continue to Hautville’s Quoit; from which it appears that those three elements also are contemporary. Therefore all the elements in the Stanton Drew group are probably of the same period—somewhere between 2000 and 1400 BC.
The stones are mostly of the local conglomerate. One or two are stated to be of oolite probably from Dundry about 3 miles (4.8km) to the north, while Hautville’s Quoit and possibly others may be of sarsen. All this group of stone circles is in the guardianship of the Department of the Environment except Hautville’s Quoit and the stones at Middle Ham Farm.

Mên-an-Tol - part of what was originally a stone circle with the stones probably not being in their original positions. It is however one of the iconic sights of Cornish pre-history.
