HEY #SEATTLE

The old Bus Tunnel station rail lines need serious work and are gonna be semi-closed for like TEN DAYS IN APRIL, which sounds like a spy novel but is mostly just a pain in the ass:

April 14 to April 23, they'll be letting like two trains an hour go through between stations and that's it. Outside the work zone will be normal.

Sigh, public engagement portals are often so bad. I was pointed at this one for #SoundTransit (about a segment in #Seattle) -- crossingsafetyst.org/. The first page has a "Let's Go" button which I click. It loads this page. I couldn't figure out how to continue to where I give comment. Turns out there is a tiny right arrow at the bottom that I could click but I didn't notice it because it just seemed like visual noise. I had to turn on VoiceOver to "find" it. At least that worked?

Then buttons on the top right for I don't know what because they are icons and then a Sign up for alerts button. The main content area is a panel about crossing safety (text copied below). Way down at the bottom is a weird iconographic set of not button like things with a grayed out left arrow and a less grayed out one. But they seem to be outside the view area. Why crossing safety? A safe community is a strong community, and "at-grade crossings" are critical points where safety, mobility, and connectivity intersect. The Sound Transit system includes multiple at-grade crossings. Safer crossings mean improved access for those interacting with tracks and trains, with fewer disruptions to daily life. Our key safety focus areas Train-Vehicle Areas where train traffic intersects with vehicle traffic. Train-Pedestrian Areas where pedestrians are traveling on the same surface level as the train. What is an at-grade crossing? Isometric diagram of at-grade crossing An at-grade crossing is a designated location where a railway track intersects with a road or path at the same level. Both the railroad and the roadway or pathway cross each other on the same surface without any bridges or tunnels separating them.

Had some fun exploring and problem-solving with friend & co-conspirator Nick while route-testing for a future group ride that will celebrate the opening of the Lynnwood Extension of the light rail at the end of August. Stay tuned for an announcement once I submit the ride and get it approved!
