OK, I think I've solved a weirdness I was encountering with my receiver.
It's got a little BFO adjustment dial which together with the adjustable filter allows for USB and LSB reception. One thing that confused me was that the way it worked just seemed kinda inconsistent. Turns out, the direction of the dial is different in different bands. in band I, III, IV, and VI turning the dial up gives raises the BFO frequency you lower sideband reception, on band II and V it lower the BFO frequency and gives you upper sideband reception. That's so confusing! Why did they do it like that?! I assume they just had standards on where to use USB and LSB and made it switch automatically accordingly?

Fixing another #TransistorRadio . This one is a #NationalPanasonic 4-band #shortwave receiver from 1970. Blew a 100 ohm 1/2watt resistor in the push-pull output stage. Will replace it and see how we go…

When switching bands you can see the large drum of tuned circuits rotating in the middle of the receiver before all the contacts engage again

Today I had another crack at repairing my #sony CRF-320 #shortwave #radio - and we have success!

The degraded foam block on the power amplifier board had become conductive (known issue). Having removed it all and cleaned the board with isopropyl, it’s now working at normal volume. Medium wave dial is broken (that’s a job for another day) and the tuning meter needs replacing. But great to hear it working again. Cindy was also very impressed, as you can see.
