An unusual visitor at Lake Wallace (near Lithgow, NSW) today.

A pair of black Muscovy ducks.

My guess is they have wandered out of somebody's back yard in Wallarawangg and discovered a slice of heaven.

These two, if they don't die in winter, will probably set up home and start a small feral population.

EDIT: One of the pair, the female, has disappeared. Hoping for the best, but betting she has been grabbed (big, yummy eggs apparently) or run over (they're slow moving and idiots drive around here like a race track).

Two large Muscovy ducks, a cross between a duck and a goose. They are black with white "spots" on their necks, white flashes on their wings, and a blue-green sheen on their backs. They have red fleshy faces, golden eyes, and large black feet. Not native to Australia.
