I keep thinking about @everythingopen.
It was a conference where I met wise elders of tech both hardware and software, and new entrants into the field, but also guardians of knowledge (librarians, museum peeps), rebels and rabble rousers, creative artists (paper, yarn, paint, pixel, words), politicians, data scientists. People looking and building things smaller by orders of magnitude than a human hair, people looking out into the vast distance of space.
I met dreamers and thinkers and everywhere there was the atmosphere of collaboration, community, and a desire for us to sustainably look after each other, our shared knowledge, and the planet we are lucky enough to exist on.
And it seems so much more than where it started: as a conference for technologists.
got my Quirkey chording keyboard built and working! Now to learn how to type on it, hopefully before my hands get too bad for using a normal keyboard!
Thanks to the Everything Open conference for introducing me to it :)

Our #nissan #leaf #ev roadtrip adventure (journeying to #adelaide for #everythingopen ) finished today and we are back home in Tasmania .
What a trip!
I think the headline stats are:
- drove through three states (#tasmania, #victoria , and #southaustralia )
- total distance of our trip was just over 2200 km
- drew approximately 390 kWh of power, 17 stops to recharge
- spent approximately $200 on charging
Also on this trip, our car turned 10,000 km old!
There are learnings and other thoughts to come out of a trip like this, they are going to be considered separately.
The whole week in Adelaide at #EverythingOpen I've been telling people to find the Gargan Death Carrot.
Now that I am stocked up on sleep and more or less have a social-able brain again — this year’s #EverythingOpen was great! Thanks to the organisers and volunteers that made it all happen :D
Some thoughts about some of the talks I saw:
(1/18)
I don't have Conf Flu - I tested - but I am so exhausted. Heat + much Peopling + not used to Peopling anymore = shock to system
A HUGE thank you to all the organisers and volunteers of @everythingopen - a wonderful conference made possible by your efforts

It’s been a long time since i’ve seen such a good “holy fuck what is that” double-take as my bag full of electronics prototypes goes through the x-ray. They didn’t seem to care about the liter of water at all. #EverythingOpen
“A lot of this [space telemetry analysis] is done in python. Python is really good for data analysis, obviously”. #everythingopen #MotherOfAllNonSequiturs
#everythingopen folks i must fly away after next talk so if you want a hug or a duel, find me at afternoon tea!
Peter Chubb’s talk on home networks at #EverythingOpen is worth looking up if you missed it even if just for the last ten minutes, which covers “how to bequeath your digital assets”

The feels when one learns one’s talk submission has been accepted.
Fantastic first talk from @silverblue where they talk about the psychological journey of going from idea to talk submission to Speaker.
