RÆVN
I made a #CorsiRosenthalBox using 4 Arctic P14 fans. I can't feel much of a draw when placing my palm against the filter. Anyone know if this is normal?

You don't get many box fans here in the UK!

Analysis of these kinds of systems (from the "Rosenthal" of Corsi Rosenthal). These filters have been exceptionally useful both for wildfires (removing toxic smoke and particulates after the recent LA wildfires), as well as plague-of-the-day (COVID-19, influenza, RSV, threat of bird flu now here...). Also just generally good to keep the air pollution in your house to a minimum!

This article has some helpful tips for folks who don't have air conditioning, but have fans. I would add that if you're in an area prone to #wildfire smoke, either build a #CorsiRosenthalBox or invest in a box fan with a removable filter. Also, it's not a bad idea to have a couple of battery operated fans on hand as well -- in case of #PowerOutages.

How to Properly Cool Your Home With a Fan

By Matt Fuchs

"Hot weather is a major threat to health, and this summer is on track to be even hotter than usual. Air conditioning is a lifesaver in these conditions, but a much older technology could protect your safety, your budget, and even the planet. Keeping cool over the next few months could revolve around the blades of a refreshing fan."

With a box fan, the cardboard box it comes in is already a perfect size to use one face as the floor of a #CorsiRosenthalBox and the other face as the fan shroud.

For the PC fan version, you can use the manufacturer's cardboard box that the Costco 4-pack of Filtrete filters comes in the same way - one face gets cut to size for the floor, and the other face gets cut to the same size for the top but with holes added where you mount the PC fans. You could maybe double the top for more rigidity.

A quieter alternative to the traditional box fan for a #CorsiRosenthalBox is to mount 5 or 6 Arctic P14 PST computer fans under a piece of cardboard/foam core/poster board instead. (They come in 5-packs.)
It can increase the initial cost a bit, but I feel the ability to comfortably run the unit 24/7 makes up for it.

To power the fans, you need a 12v fan power supply like this:

Mounting screws should be #6-32 x 1-3/4" with #6-32 hex nuts and optional #6 washers.

Today, I was asked about effective air cleaners, because wildfires have already begun to flare in North America.

Extensive global testing has found that a DIY #CorsiRosenthalBox will outperform almost every commercial HEPA unit while costing less to run.

For the US & Canada, the best source of filters to build one is Costco: Filtrete 1900, 2200, or 2500 models with at least one 20-inch dimension.

These units also help mitigate allergens and infectious aerosols like #Covid and Influenza.

I just found out the commercial air filters my public library bought cost $2000 and don’t work as well as a $100 #CorsiRosenthalBox. I mean still better than no filter but 😭😭😭

We gotta get this knowledge into our communities! So in case helpful to US folks, some links:

These filters test really well and are a good deal:

taking @robwiss 's build with IKEA filters (github.com/robwiss/diy_air_pur) as inspiration, I built this. All the filters on one side of the box so I can hang this above my sofa. This cardboard monstrosity is a prototype to show my partner that it works and I'll re-build it out of PVC boards soon. But! cardboard is an easy to work with material. And it is more easily available and cheaper than some other materials.
Edit: I sourced mine from the recycling bin.
