It feels so good to at least harvest something.
This year it has been incredibly cold and 80% of my seeds have not grown.
I guess radish is nothing special, but this one is huge and beautiful.
@utopify_org this was my first year growing radishes and i really love it. they are so easy and gratifying. I don't even really like radishes and I am already planning my fall radish planting. "everyone shall eat radishes!"
@bluedragon Exactly! And I figured out that there are different ones.
They are different in taste, size and spice. And some pop and some not.
But figuring out that there was so many differences to those from the supermarket was just mind blowing.
This time I bought organic seeds and they are the best ones so far.
@utopify_org I got bog standard red little guys. maybe its time to branch out. our csa gave us some big watermelon radishes that were cool looking. honestly I couldn't taste much of a difference but maybe i'll get something a little milder. i wanted to pickle them but my wife has put the kibosh on lacto-fermenting bc of the smells, alas. Maybe i can get back into vinegar brining but it just isn't as much fun when you aren't directing the bacteria to nefarious ends.
@utopify_org Our last three seasons we la nina and were unseasonably cold so I started putting my veges under mini poly tunnels. I was experienced really poor germination rates but in the tunnels it was better than I ever had. They are quite cheap to buy and mine have lasted three years so far.
These are the ones I got.

@utopify_org They have a zip up the middle which makes it super easy to open them on hot days. We have a lot of wind where I am so I put a rock on each side of each section and one each end and they have withstood 80kph winds.
@Oozenet Those are really good, but I am trying to avoid as much plastic as I can.
I already had to buy a small green house for my tomatoes, so at least they will grow, but it's plastic too and I felt really bad to buy it, because currently my garden isn't on my own property and a green house made out of glass would be hard to transport.
If I would have my own property, I would build a winter garden or some kind of bigger green house made out of glass.
Something like this would be a dream:
@utopify_org Funny you should mention that, I am also concerned about the plastic but just today I saw a non plastic replacement for these in the window of my local organic gardening supplies shop. Sadly they weren't open at the time so I will check them out tomorrow.
I too am lusting after a glass greenhouse...
@Oozenet I am curious about the non plastic replacement of the organic gardening supplies shop you mentioned.
@utopify_org I will tell you once I get a chance to go to the shop when it is open.
@Oozenet Thank you
@utopify_org @tom Local environmental conditions. I live on top of a hill on a little island at the bottom of the world.
We get 100kph+ winds and hail and we have the kind of trees that drop branches.
@tom @Oozenet How much does a piece of thick glass cost?
And what do you mean by not be clear? Do you mean the windows can't be clear, but must be like milky so not the whole sun can come through?
Sorry for silly questions, but I've never owned a greenhouse made out of glass, even if it would be a wish of mine
@utopify_org they look very pretty! We managed to harvest some okay-ish raspberries and strawberries. But it has been a struggle this year
@steppeBow This year was horrible!
Exactly one year ago I had a super green garden and could already harvest a lot of stuff.
This year it looks like a cemetery.
