I've recently been thinking about a switch to the Fairphone 5, but after some research, I'm not sure it's worth it?

@kev I literally just got my Fairphone 5 a few days back. Have been running CalyxOS on it and having a good time.
@kev It's either completely degoogled or almost completely degoogled. I use f-droid store if I can and aurora store (an open source alternative fronted end to the play store without any tracking etc) for the rest. I don't even have the play store installed.
I have thunderbird email, fossify dialer, messages and camera.
My normal banking app and other paid apps that I had originally bought through the play store work perfectly fine.
The only thing that seems impossible to get working is Google wallet. I have already gotten used to using my bank card to pay for things rather than my phone as my previous phone used lineageOS.
You can also lock the bootloader after you've installed CalyxOS for additional security.
I am having a really good time here!!!
@vegos_f06 I think there are deep permission reasons that prevent such a wallet from being created. I think google only lets you use google wallet on android proper for security reasons.
@livernot @kev You can use any app that's available in the play store getting it through the aurora store.
I use bitwarden as my password manager app, it also stores 2FA which is convenient. I'm sure F-droid has all of those things.
I use Molly which is an independent signal fork for messaging https://molly.im/
It has a feature where you can encrypt the entire database of messages which I'm using.
I don't use a news or a blogging app. There are a lot of RSS feed reader type apps and I'm still working out a nice way to sync it with my laptop. I have termux installed and might even go with a cli option.
My blog is currently using ghost, I don't blog from my phone. I'm soon going to replace it with static html though!
