@nm interested to see how you get on with making oat milk. We spent a few weeks trying various recipes but never got one we liked - most weren’t even drinkable.
@StanWonn @nm @collette @Ellie Yes! A vitamix or ninja blender system enables so many things that are just annoying or hard to make otherwise. Homemade hummus is a breeze with a food processor, as are energy balls. Tofu-based sauces come out super creamy, as do bean-based spreads.
It's one of those things that feels like too much money until you realize how much you are using it.
@nm @collette @Ellie so many options. Oat milk doesn't even need a powerful blender. You can make soy milk, rice milk, almond milk... By making soy milk you also are left with the "leftovers", which is called Okara, and can be used in so many ways.
Then there's the option of making your own nut pastes! Almond butter is awesome for smoothies but also to add to your curries or stews for example

I make my own soy milk twice or 3 times a week, using a soy milk maker. The reason this is slightly more complicated is that you have to boil soy milk, unlike the other nut milks. I buy my organic soy beans in bulk as I also make tempeh.
Another great milk I make is hemp seed milk with hulled hemp seeds. My cat loves to lick any that is on a spoon or counter etc. It's her favourite. I make chocolate chia pudding with that.

Also, a great tip for soy milk making I learned from Miyoko
Schinner's book 'The Vegan Pantry' is not to soak the soy beans before making the milk. Instead, bring a big pot of water to a boil, drop in the dry soy beans, and boil for 1 minute from that point. Remove from the heat, cover, and let sit for 30 minutes. Then drain and make the milk as from soaked beans, boiling etc. It removes the 'beany' taste you get from home-made. I feed the okara to our dog.
