I just realized that all of the non-English-language posts in my #Mastodon feed reminds me of being in #NYC where there are always some people speaking different languages around you. I think this may low-key be one of the reasons I love Mastodon so much, but even better is that here I can simply click to read what they are saying.
TLDR: Mastodon is like a great city (multi-cultural! nice people! no ads! lots of excellent #vegan food!), but even better because it has an auto-translate feature. <3
I now know that this is something available only on some servers:
@MelissaRatisher Hi I'm new to Mastodon and can't find the translation button feature. Help please
@PeterMLittle Hi! It's not a button, it appears in many (not all) messages as a "translate" button you can click.
@PeterMLittle photo credit to @Blickwinkel . Can you tell us how you added the translate button?
@MelissaRatisher thanks..I've not seen one yet!
Whereas Twitter offered it every time. It is one thing I miss as my Dutch and German are inadequate
@PeterMLittle Hopefully we will all have it one day soon. :)
Hi @PeterMLittle, on my desktop, I installed SimpleTranslate. I highlight the text I need translated and a popup appears which I click and it gives me the full translation. Really nice. @MelissaRatisher
@MelissaRatisher
I also really loved that about NYC when I lived there. I remember on one occasion, I heard something like 7 different languages while walking only a handful of blocks.
