crashmoney<p>are split keyboards worth the hype? what’s your experience with them vs regular mechanical keyboards + switching between a standard laptop keyboard when out and about to the split keyboard at home?</p><p>i don’t have plans to get one now, largely because of how difficult they are to find and the consequent higher costs… the ZSA Moonlander is what i’ve been eyeing for a while, but i’m curious to hear what people think</p><p><a href="https://sunny.garden/tags/SplitKeyboard" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>SplitKeyboard</span></a> <a href="https://sunny.garden/tags/SplitMechanicalKeyboard" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>SplitMechanicalKeyboard</span></a> <a href="https://sunny.garden/tags/keyboard" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>keyboard</span></a> <a href="https://sunny.garden/tags/MechanicalKeyboard" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>MechanicalKeyboard</span></a> <a href="https://sunny.garden/tags/technology" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>technology</span></a> <a href="https://sunny.garden/tags/tech" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>tech</span></a></p>
Bastian Greshake Tzovaras<p>A good three weeks later I'm up to ~82 WPM on the split keyboard, at least for regular text, finding symbols and shortcuts is still a bit slower!</p><p><a href="https://scholar.social/tags/ergokeyboard" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>ergokeyboard</span></a> <a href="https://scholar.social/tags/keyboard" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>keyboard</span></a> <a href="https://scholar.social/tags/SplitMechanicalKeyboard" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>SplitMechanicalKeyboard</span></a></p>
Bastian Greshake Tzovaras<p>Slowly getting there, at least for the letter keys I've seen to update my muscle memory quite well!</p><p>Doing any shortcuts and moving around is still less ingrained, despite having put movements on a vim-style hjkl -based layer.</p><p><a href="https://scholar.social/tags/keyboard" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>keyboard</span></a> <a href="https://scholar.social/tags/ergonomics" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>ergonomics</span></a> <a href="https://scholar.social/tags/SplitMechanicalKeyboard" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>SplitMechanicalKeyboard</span></a></p>
Pierre-Yves<p>Les gens qui utilisent des claviers splits, vous faites comment quand vous êtes dans le canapé avec un laptop pour que ça reste confortable ?<br><a href="https://piaille.fr/tags/ergol" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>ergol</span></a> <a href="https://piaille.fr/tags/SplitMechanicalKeyboard" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>SplitMechanicalKeyboard</span></a> <a href="https://piaille.fr/tags/sweep" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>sweep</span></a> <a href="https://piaille.fr/tags/ferris" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>ferris</span></a><br>Le boost sauve des canaux carpiens 🤩</p>
Triple<p>Me watching myself getting into split keyboards, key mapping, ergonomic keyboard layouts and finally creating my own keyboard layout to help me in the way towards learning this other interesting but too different keyboard layout.</p><p><a href="https://typo.social/tags/SplitMechanicalKeyboard" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>SplitMechanicalKeyboard</span></a> <a href="https://typo.social/tags/meme" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>meme</span></a> <a href="https://typo.social/tags/ergol" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>ergol</span></a></p>
Kanishk Pachauri<p>What does it take to build a split mechanical keyboard from scratch? </p><p>Any help or suggested articles would be great. </p><p><a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/keyboard" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>keyboard</span></a> <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/mechanicalkeyboard" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>mechanicalkeyboard</span></a> <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/splitmechanicalkeyboard" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>splitmechanicalkeyboard</span></a></p>
Thure<p>I gave this Manibus a thorough try, got typing games, the works, but:</p><p>• I type C with my index finger, so C being positioned right under D was a surprising challenge, and my muscle memory is stubborn</p><p>• I’m expressive with the special punctuation macOS’s ABC Extended offers, a lot of which is accessed from keys to the right of the letters, but the Manibus doesn’t leave any room on the horizontal axis for them, and muscle memory blocked the way forward again</p><p>2/x</p><p><a href="https://hci.social/tags/splitMechanicalKeyboard" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>splitMechanicalKeyboard</span></a></p>
