Jason Garber<p>Ten years ago today, I spoke at CSS Summit, kicking off the event with a presentation, "Designing with Progressive Enhancement." I'm quite proud of the results and I think the thesis has borne itself out even though •quite• a lot has changed since then.</p><p>I recently clear-cut my personal website and haven't yet reconstituted my old posts, but here's the Wayback Machine's most recent capture of my presentation:</p><p><a href="https://web.archive.org/web/20240617173602/https://sixtwothree.org/posts/designing-with-progressive-enhancement" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">web.archive.org/web/2024061717</span><span class="invisible">3602/https://sixtwothree.org/posts/designing-with-progressive-enhancement</span></a></p><p><a href="https://indieweb.social/tags/ProgressiveEnhancement" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>ProgressiveEnhancement</span></a> <a href="https://indieweb.social/tags/WebDevelopment" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>WebDevelopment</span></a></p>
Nathan Knowler<p>Targeting an `&lt;iframe&gt;` element is an interesting technique for progressive enhancement (e.g. showing search results in the iframe that updates when the user submits a filter form), however, the lack of feedback for screen readers when the frame navigates makes me think it should be avoided. <a href="https://sunny.garden/tags/ProgressiveEnhancement" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>ProgressiveEnhancement</span></a> <a href="https://sunny.garden/tags/accessibility" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>accessibility</span></a> <a href="https://sunny.garden/tags/a11y" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>a11y</span></a></p>
Philipp Lunch<p>Trying to do a css only proximity hover effect with variable fonts. </p><p>I was nearly there and only than understood, that without javascript my variable font is not loading. </p><p>aww damn. 😄 </p><p><a href="https://social.anoxinon.de/tags/javascript" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>javascript</span></a> <a href="https://social.anoxinon.de/tags/variablefont" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>variablefont</span></a> <a href="https://social.anoxinon.de/tags/progressiveEnhancement" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>progressiveEnhancement</span></a> <a href="https://social.anoxinon.de/tags/css" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>css</span></a></p>
Marek ‘saji’<p>Hello there. <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/introduction" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>introduction</span></a></p><p>I'm doing webby things. Originally from Poland, currently based in Berlin. I strongly believe in <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/progressiveEnhancement" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>progressiveEnhancement</span></a>, that <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/accessibility" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>accessibility</span></a> on the web should be inalienable (thought I still have a lot to learn here) and that any single web page should fit on a 1.44MB floppy unless it has a _really_ good reason not to.</p>
