The vOICe vision BCI 🧠🇪🇺<p>Lucid dreams can be visually extremely vivid, detailed and realistic. So our brain is capable of very high quality mental imagery, perhaps like <a href="https://mas.to/tags/hyperphantasia" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>hyperphantasia</span></a>. Then what is normally blocking our brain from switching to such a state while awake? We have a use case. <a href="https://mas.to/tags/neuroscience" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>neuroscience</span></a></p>
Preston von Gabbleduck<p>Worked out today in a meeting (yeah, anecdotal and everything) that while I, the <a href="https://aus.social/tags/UX" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>UX</span></a> product manager have <a href="https://aus.social/tags/aphantasia" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>aphantasia</span></a>, the UX design lead has <a href="https://aus.social/tags/hyperphantasia" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>hyperphantasia</span></a>. Many lols.</p>
OutOfExile_IDR § Écriture™️<p>This is an updated version of a post I've had pinned on my profile for a couple of years. Like anything related to the study of the brain, there's always new information coming out. This is a more detailed overview, of a very interesting phenomenon, and one I actually experience.</p><p>“I Couldn’t Really Imagine, What it’s Like To Not Imagine…” <a href="https://outofexileidr.vivaldi.net/2024/10/09/i-couldnt-really-imagine-what-its-like-to-not-imagine/" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">outofexileidr.vivaldi.net/2024</span><span class="invisible">/10/09/i-couldnt-really-imagine-what-its-like-to-not-imagine/</span></a></p><p>💚 If you like my work, please consider buying me a coffee on ko-fi: <a href="https://ko-fi.com/outofexile_idr" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="">ko-fi.com/outofexile_idr</span><span class="invisible"></span></a></p><p>👉🏼 View my other work or send support via stripe here: <a href="https://outofexileidr.vivaldi.net/dona" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="">outofexileidr.vivaldi.net/dona</span><span class="invisible"></span></a></p><p><a href="https://social.vivaldi.net/tags/Imagination" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Imagination</span></a> <a href="https://social.vivaldi.net/tags/Neurodivergent" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Neurodivergent</span></a> <a href="https://social.vivaldi.net/tags/PhotorealisticImagination" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>PhotorealisticImagination</span></a> <a href="https://social.vivaldi.net/tags/Aphantasia" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Aphantasia</span></a> <a href="https://social.vivaldi.net/tags/Hyperphantasia" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Hyperphantasia</span></a> <a href="https://social.vivaldi.net/tags/neuroscience" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>neuroscience</span></a> <span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://a.gup.pe/u/disability" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">@<span>disability</span></a></span> <span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://newsmast.community/@disabledvoices" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">@<span>disabledvoices</span></a></span></p>

What you said makes sense to me. I read quite quickly and normally have no inner voice doing the reading -- all the words/paragraphs just flow in and generate immersive scenes with descriptions, dialog, actions, and thoughts all combining together. Am wondering if reading like this w/o inner voice is related to hyperphantasia?</p>
Chuck Darwin<p>William Blake’s imagination is thought to have burned with such intensity that, <br>when creating his great artworks, <br>he needed little reference to the physical world. </p><p>While drawing historical or mythical figures, for instance, he would wait until the “spirit” appeared in his mind’s eye. </p><p>The visions were apparently so detailed that Blake could sketch as if a real person were sitting before him.</p><p>Such intense and detailed imaginations are thought to reflect a condition known as hyperphantasia, <br>and it may not be nearly as rare as we once thought, with as many as one in 30 people reporting incredibly vivid mind’s eyes</p><p><a href="https://c.im/tags/Hyperphantasia" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Hyperphantasia</span></a> </p><p><a href="https://www.theguardian.com/science/2024/apr/20/like-a-film-in-my-mind-hyperphantasia-and-the-quest-to-understand-vivid-imaginations?CMP=Share_iOSApp_Other" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://www.</span><span class="ellipsis">theguardian.com/science/2024/a</span><span class="invisible">pr/20/like-a-film-in-my-mind-hyperphantasia-and-the-quest-to-understand-vivid-imaginations?CMP=Share_iOSApp_Other</span></a></p>

Anna Nicholson<p>Prompted by a quip made elsewhere, I wondered afresh why it is that I sometimes like to rewatch films I’ve seen before (perhaps many times before), whereas I’ll almost never read a novel more than once</p><p>Partly it comes down to time and effort, I think: it takes much, much longer for me to read a book than to watch a film</p><p>(And the time it takes to watch a film is predictable, unlike the number of weeks it could take me to get through a book)</p><p>But I also wondered if has something to do with being aphantasic</p><p>If I even vaguely recall the basic plot of a novel, it can be tedious for me to have to reread all the words used to convey that plot (just to remind myself of a few forgotten details), unless they are particularly beautifully put together</p><p>Only in a very weak sense (I suspect) am I transported to the world of the story when I’m reading</p><p>Watching a film on the other hand, I am drawn in to the illusion of reality created by the immediate sense impressions of moving images and sound</p><p>I imagine that someone who is hyperphantasic (or just has more typical mental imagery) would find it easier to slip into an imaginary world when reading (making repeat readings more enjoyable), while being able to recall sense impressions from a film at will would reduce their interest in rewatching it</p><p>Does that make any sense?</p><p><a href="https://eldritch.cafe/tags/aphantasia" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>aphantasia</span></a> <a href="https://eldritch.cafe/tags/hyperphantasia" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>hyperphantasia</span></a> <a href="https://eldritch.cafe/tags/ActuallyAphantasic" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ActuallyAphantasic</span></a> <a href="https://eldritch.cafe/tags/novels" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>novels</span></a> <a href="https://eldritch.cafe/tags/films" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>films</span></a> <a href="https://eldritch.cafe/tags/movies" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>movies</span></a></p>
